Disliked · We didn't like collecting our keys from a busy bar and feel there should be a separate reception. The host offered milk in a jug which had to be carried from the main bar to the suite accessed via outside. This should have been brought by the host or sealed packaging provided. Kitchen worktop wasn't clean. The stairs were unsafe. Too narrow and short spiral steps. The property had an extreme lack of any sound proofing. The noise levels form neighbouring suites sounded like a heard of elephants. The noise was so bad it felt like the other guests were in the same room. Conversations could clearly be heard. It was impossible to get a good nights sleep. We left early due to the poor facilities. The property was much smaller than expected for the price paid. The mattress was very cheap and uncomfortable. The property was difficult to move around and the bathroom ceiling was too low to be used effectively without banging your head. My partner cut his head on the window in the bathroom as it was so low. My partner also had to bend his body to access the toilet. This should be advised before booking. We assumed breakfast would be available to purchase but this was not the case. The host explained that they concentrated on the carvery and as such couldn't provide a full breakfast, she offered a bacon roll if we contacted the chef. We felt that as there was a chef and kitchens that breakfast should be available for paying guests staying overnight. Priority should be given to staying guests, especially for the price charged. The host should have offered to take an order for a breakfast roll and not expected the guest to contact a busy chef themselves. Seems like the hosts are happy to take your money but not provide any service after. Appalling service really and as such we won't be staying again or...
Read moreVisited Romneys 14th April 2018 for 2 nights. It was my partners 50th so I emailed weeks before to ask if there was any packages they offered that I could get that would make his birthday extra special....I was not acknowledged at all. The snug we had was number 5... very tired and in need of a bit of TLC. At £270 for 2 nights you would expect it to be half decent...but sadly no wow factor at all. We decided to make the most of it but it wasnt the best... no blinds to living room area which overlooked the back of private houses. Stairs were a bit crazy and steep...certainly not for young children or elderly...they forget to mention this on advertising. Tired sofa... minimum kitchen utensils and just a microwave and kettle. We didnt even have 2 mugs for us so had to ask at the bar. Tv in living area and no such luxury in sleeping area on the upper level. Towels provided but you did not get a daily visit from housekeeping. Upper level attic roof so no good if tall...no shower just a bath in the corner by the bed and all I can describe as a cupboard space with a toilet and sink. I am not tall and had to stoop to enter. Bed was ok...not the most comfortable but clean. Panel missing by bath exposing rafters behind...lots of dust and grime on floor behind bath. Walls thin so expect to hear the snug neighbours. Carpark horrendous a free for all for pub and restaurant clients...no reserved parking for people in the accomodation. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday we had table for 90mins before it was reserved for another party. Food was very good and the drinks fab...that was the only good thing. By the way for your £135 per night dont expect breakfast. All in all a disappointing break to Kendal for what was a special occasion. I would never go back or recommend but the restaurant worth a visit if you...

I don't usually write negative reviews, but something needs to be said.
We've been coming to Romney's for years and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but unfortunately, tonight's experience left a lot to be desired - not because of the food (which was okay), but because of the poor service.
We completely understand how difficult it is these days to find and retain good staff, but that only makes it more important for management to ensure proper training - especially when it comes to basic manners and customer interaction.
The young lady who served us looked miserable the entire time, but at least she got the job done and had manners.
Things took a real turn for the worse when we went to the bar to pay our bill.
The older woman with dark hair (who didn't speak great English) was not just unfriendly- she was outright hostile.
I had actually planned to leave a tip, as I know how challenging front-of-house roles can be, but her attitude and the dirty looks she gave us changed my mind.
To top it off, she snatched the cash from my hand and aggressively gave me my change back without saying thank you. It was completely unnecessary and frankly unacceptable.
What made the experience even more concerning was that other guests around us seemed to be treated quite differently much more politely and professionally.
It's hard not to wonder if we were being treated unfairly for a reason. We hope that's not the case, but it certainly felt that way in the moment
It's a real shame. We live nearby and this used to be one of our favourite places for a meal out. But after tonight, weill be giving it a miss for a while in hope that there are new staff or a serious retraining...
