Joining Croham has been a revelation and I would attribute the joy that I've felt to Adam Aram, the Club's Golf Pro. I commend Adam to you. To provide some colour: from Day One, Adam has been welcoming, friendly and encouraging. Golf is an intimidating sport for a novice but owing to Adam's sense of fun and his infectious enthusiasm, he makes it feel like it belongs to you and not just those entrenched in the game from an early age or through the generations. Adam is a phenomenal teacher. He's nurturing, considered, thoughtful, patient, inspiring and listens so intently that you simply can't miss that he's utterly invested in doing everything in his power to make you a better golfer. Adam has imbued me with confidence. There hasn't been an ounce of frustration from Adam, he's just kept chipping away (forgive the pun), motivating me and exhorting me to improve. -I can't begin to articulate how much I've enjoyed my lessons with Adam. In addition to everything else, he's an awesome bloke, the best of us and that's absolutely priceless. If I was scoring Adam, I'd give him 6096 out of 6096. It won't have escaped you that that's the course yellow yardage.
I play at the weekends and Adam is brilliantly assisted in the Pro Shop at weekends by Portia. Like Adam, Portia is wonderful, fun, joyous and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Between the two of them, it's just a fantastically welcoming...
Read moreCroham Hurst Golf Club is an 18 hole parkland course situated on the outskirts of Croydon. Many of the holes are framed nicely, with the rolling fairways being framed perfectly by dense woodland.
When I played towards the end of June, teeing off at 6pm, the course was in decent shape, and offered very good value for money with it's twilight rate (£20), and we pretty much had the entire course to ourselves.
At just over 6000 yards from the Yellow tees, the course isn't the longest, but in places plays longer with a number of holes which run uphill, but you can also be caught out with a long approach if you have to pitch out from the trees!
From the higher points on the course, there are opportunities for far ranging views over the city, which is particularly attractive at twilight.
The course has a number of memorable holes, with my favourites being the short par 4 4th (a great matchplay hole!), the reachable par 5 11th back towards the club house, and the tough long par 3 16th.
Overall, Croham Hurst is an attractive and fun course, with excellent value twilight deals, and is definitely worth checking out if in the area!

I arrived Saturday, and American on layover in London looking for a place to play within public transport from Gatwick. The staff and members received me with utmost kindness, especially the woman in the pro shop. She was extremely accommodating in getting me on the course though I had not booked an advance time.
The course was beautiful - not overly challenging, but in good condition despite overnight rain, and I appreciated the variety between holes.
After the round, members I chatted with on the course invited me to sit for a beer and were warm and welcoming despite my being a stranger. Nice to feel welcome on a golf course half a planet away from home. Hope to be back...
