Store OK, but Oh! their tech!
Visited today for the first time in a while to buy a few items. I used to shop and buy fuel there until they stopped offering premium diesel.
Anyway, they now have a self-scan system (based on Bookers, which works). So, I present my Clubcard and it refuses - maybe you have to register for it? I buy a couple of birthday cards, but then noticed that without the card some items are 50% more expensive - a sort of inertia sell. I decided to check out to see if the tills accept my Club card. No joy. Next stop customer service desk. Bit of a queue, try card there, still not recognised, try app', won't log in. Told to reset the card I will need to phone their HQ. Reset password using my phone, no email sent so reset it again, this time receiving the link, then the app' wakes up but wants digits 13-16 from the card, enter the last 4, but Tesco's number is longer, count them out. At last the app is working, so I select a self-scan. I buy five items, which scan correctly and head to the checkout. Scanner won't scan the bar code on the till screen, so summon assistance. Purchases all scanned again. I pay and request a receipt, but don't get one, then it turns out that one item (a £4 pair of slippers!) has a tag on it and this has to be removed, assisant arrives again, but now needs the receipt, which I didn't get, so has to [re] print another and removes the tag.
Finally, just three minutes short of an hour I depart with my purchases. I could have washed my hair three times during that hour and it would have been more fun!
Years ago, I had similar problems with an early Tesco self-service checkout - I was buying a bottle of port as a gift, three interventions for age check (I was about sixty, but do look younger), tag removal and IIRC not needing a bag). It seems their systems...
Read moreDespite being super cautious as a volunteer delivering prescriptions and following Government guidelines to the letter, if I was going to catch this virus I could probably trace it to Baguley Tesco. I've only been twice and never again. Initially very impressed with the organisation outside the store and the control of numbers entering by somebody who wouldn't look out of place on the door of a city nightclub, once inside it descends into a free-for-all. Customers, for whatever reason, seem unable or unwilling to simply follow the arrows, maybe a few extra metres is just too much of an inconvenience. I challenged a few myself and was met with various responses from apology to defiance and intimidation. Then there are those that are so engrossed on that vital mobile phone conversation that they have no clue how close they might be to others. I would be more forgiving if I thought staff numbers was an issue but there were many (and yes I am thankful to them). But they are unfortunately not being utilised to "police" the aisles and instead are often chatting in small groups. I think their mere presence around the store to guide "those" sort of customers would work wonders. Unfortunately, you can't legislate against stupidity and selfishness but I feel let down by Tesco's poor attempt to keep me safe whilst I shop and keep their tills ringing. So if you want to go somewhere where you can seemingly forget that there is a killer virus on the loose then this is the store for you. I personally won't be going third time lucky! And funnily enough it has become increasingly difficult to let the store know your...
Read moreNever been made to feel so uncomfortable and angered in a shop like I have done today. I have gone to this shop most of my life and ive never experienced anything like this. Me and my friends went into tesco to get stuff for our camping trip. Everything was going well got all our essentials, me and one of my friends went to go get some paper plates and cutlery. When we left my two other freind got approached and got shouted at while picking up alcohol saying WE WILL NOT SERVE YOU WHILE YOU ARE WITH THE YOUNG GIRLS. They explain we are over age and have our IDs. Keeping in mind I'm the eldest 25 and we are all over 21. We get to the till we have 1 young man come over saying sorry we can't serve you then an elder women and she comes over in a hurry saying we have already spoken to you we CAN NOT SERVE YOU. We were treated with so much disrespect and she was extremely rude to us until she realised we had valid ID proof of age. All completely gobsmacked with the way we had been spoken to. My friend then came back in for redbull seconds later for our journey and was treated with the same rudness.
I completely understand there is an issue with underage serving, I am not one to put reviews and complain but the way they approached us and spoke to us on multiple occasions and just assumed instead of giving us the chance to even give our proof of age was disgusting. I have never experienced...
