Bestwood Fisheries — Local services in Nottingham

I found this gem of a chip shop a few months ago and I'm so glad I did. I mostly always order fish and peas so can only comment on that. The peas are lovely as you'd expect mushy peas to be. The fish is wonderful, large portion that is meaty and cooked to perfection. The batter is yummy! Crispy and delicious. I dont live far away, but I have no choice but to have it delivered, and this meal would cost me £17.25 including delivery and service charge. That meant I could only order this treat seldomly. However, the last time I ordered I paid £13 and some pence. And either the owner or staff member delivered it. Previously I think it was uber or similar who delivered. It was over £3 for that! And that bumped up the charge to an amount that is prohibitive to many. Hence, for me, it was a special treat to afford it. So this recent change is fantastic, and encouraged me to write this review. The saving is substantial and I do hope it's a permanent feature. I hope it brings more business to bestwood fisheries, and hope the change was in response to the boycott on the controversial uber delivery people, because that would garner more support I'm sure. I usually only treat myself to fish and chips once a year when I’m in England, so I always want the experience to be memorable. This place absolutely delivered. The haddock was fantastic—crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, just the way it should be. Everything tasted fresh and perfectly cooked, and you could tell real care went into preparing the meal.

What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere created by the staff. They were not only efficient, but genuinely cheerful and welcoming, which made the visit feel even more special. It’s rare these days to find a place where the food and service both hit such a high standard.

I ordered through the website and it took over an hour to receive my order even though I opted to collect in person. A ridiculous order system with people waiting all around the pavement. I also didn't appreciate my surname being shouted out in the crowd! I had to use my surname when ordering online as it requested my details, you could easily have shouted out only the first name as I'm sure no one else has my first name as it's not typical.

Regarding the food it wasn't worth the wait. We ordered two gyros, one with doner and the other with mediterranean chicken. The portion size was laughable, a total of 4chips per gyro and a few slices of meat.. is this typical? £10 down the drain and a fail meal for our journey back to Manchester.
