Me and my party decided that we wanted to book an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet for our Saturday night meal. We have never dined at this specific establishment for food before, however after last night‘s experience we won’t be coming back any time soon.
Before I start though I cannot fault the staff in anyway because they were very attentive and were cleaning the whole time we was there.
However you could tell that the restaurant itself looks very dated and the atmosphere felt very sterile. It needed some life bringing into it and some good music playing to set a welcoming atmosphere.
We paid £16.95 for all-you-can-eat buffet which is on the expensive side compared to some other Chinese buffets that I have been to before, however I don’t mind paying for good food. This was not the case at this restaurant.
When you want to get your food, it is presented in a standard serve yourself style and about half of the food in these trays were either empty or looked bare. Brush granted we were told that they had been really busy, however I don’t think it’s fair to leave out cold food for other diners.
When we got the food back to the table everything was either cold or did not taste very good. The quality of the food was extremely poor and I found it in edible. However, I sucked it up as there is a £5 wastage charge for plates of purposeful waste. I did struggle a lot but luckily my party helped me out a little bit by eating some of it.
When it came to refilling a plate, I only went and had salt and pepper chicken as I felt that would be the best and safest bet. We were all already having a really poor time due to the atmosphere and the food not living up to expectations. However when I got my second plate I was just as disappointed because it tasted cold and greasy. The food overall is just terrible and that was a shame as we had seen so many positive reviews.
After the poor food we decided not to refill our plates and see if we could have some redemption with dessert. But alas, this did not happen. We went straight to the ice cream machine but we were told there would be a 15 minute wait as it needed refilling. We then went over to the freezer to see what soft serve ice cream we could get. And to our complete shock, we saw frozen cheesecakes which could be bought from LIDL on display!!! And it did not improve from there either…
There was a selection of cakes and biscuits but these were all shop bought too as we saw cupcakes that we could buy for £2.09 in Tesco ourselves. The biscuits were stale and the gateau that was on display was still frozen.
After the disappointing meal, we decided to ask for the bill and pay reluctantly. Our total for 3 people and 3 drinks was £61.25. This was probably one of the worst value meals I have ever had and I will not be returning...
Read moreModern adaptation of former pub, just next to Police Station. Free parking, clean and fresh inside, with restaurant divided between many different size seating areas, including lovely garden seats (when warm enough, obviously). This arrangement offer wide choice of seats, from very cosy small room to rather large table seatings. There is function room to rent there and few large tables for groups, birthday or parties f.e. Buffet area separated from seats, with modern spacious arrangements, wok, tepanyaki , grill and Vietnamese nuddle frying specials served quickly to your taste. Serving staff very approaching, maybe little over as we have two or three staff members observing us all the time... At least finished plates disapair immediately 👍 Food served fresh and well described, large choice of mild Cantonese and Chinese meals, with choice of sauces next to tepanyaki bar if you wish to spice them. Reasonable choice of deserts options, with boxes of cakes visible from freezer - unusual but I like this, as I like to know what I will eat. This place showing that owners care and trying to give best experience, and I appreciate this evening, and definitely will be back for more. I will recommend this place seating comfortable between May Sum and Cosmo, but much cosier and private like both of them....
Read moreMy wife had organised my birthday meal with friends, family and work colleagues tonight at the golden Phoenix. It started off great with everyone meeting up and having a drink in the bar area. So when everyone has got there, all 19 people, we were showed to our table. Everything was great, until this member of staff, came up to the table half way through the meal, asking for payment, we were all confused. We have never been asked before for payment b4 finishing our meal. This happened up to 5 times through the evening, not happy. My wife also asked for my birthday cake to be brought over 4 times, but no one brought it. When we had the cake and candles, we were then asked that there were still 4 people to pay for there meal. After the meal an my birthday guests had started going home, I went to the bar, and asked why we were asked to pay for our meals over 4 times through the event, the management, the lady behind the bar, just kept laughing at me, her staff apologised, but she still kept laughing, I went b4 I lost it. I will be back to complain to management again to. Its a joke how we...
