Wow! So we learnt this week when we were at Beacon Fell that they have off road buggies called Trampers and if you book these in advance then you can get these for FREE. Wasnt expecting that but considering we are trying to find things to do for my grandma and grandad, this is very good service. We set up for a picnic on the grass just next to the cafe. We were starting to use a gas boiler to boild our kettle when we were advised we can not use a naked flame equipement on-site. Totally understandable but the lady then went the extra mile and offered for them to fill the kettle up with boiling water for FREE. something they did not need to do as the cafe was right next to it - before you think we didnt use the cafe, we did. We had drinks and ice creams as it was boiling hot and as a family it made the day a really good outing. I have not been to beacon fell in years and it has created another fond memory day for me. I would recommend going to the Cafe, and if your family have elderly, the paths can accomodate a Tramper - just remember to book in advance. Parking was just £1.00 all day. I can not find a fault in Beacon Fell. Its a must see, must go to - awesome day out for the family. :-) We...
Read moreI have walked round this coniferous wood with tarn many times over the years. I have developed mixed feelings about the experience. It only takes less than an hour to stroll most of the trails some parts are cobble stone type uneven sometimes and often boggy in the moorland parts. Definitely not the most picturesque walk around but views good from trig point area and can be an unusual interesting experience when the fog really comes down thick over this upland area. Sometimes a few appreciated arty features are added to spice up the walk in an area which just does not seem to change at all over time. Wildlife thin on the ground in this harsh habitat except the feeders at visitor centre. Plenty of car park areas around and often near empty because only small numbers of people usually present weekdays. Good toilet facilities and attractive cafe although rather devoid of customers when I have passed by or called in to see if any tourist leaflets of interest. Beacon Fell does have a certain...
Read moreLots of small free car parks if you can find a space. However, it's only £1 to park all day in the main one! Three great waymarked routes. Good views from the summit. Well maintained paths. A very peaceful place with plenty of birdsong, small ponds, woods and deer. Easy to leave country park and walk other longer footpaths if that's your thing. Cafe was lovely. Great sausage butty and hot coffee after an hours walk. The viewing window was a nice touch. We sat with another family and saw lots of wildlife, birds, a squirrel, and a bank vole. The only downside is that the car park payment machines do not take cash (as they've been stolen in the past), so you must have a card to pay, or try and find a space in one of the smaller free car parks. There are toilets but we...
