Lived at IQ for 2 years. It’s fine, but it’s overpriced.
Avoid the unrefurbished blocks.
Don’t pay for anything above silver(besides the studios) because they’re exactly the same (I lived in silver 1st year and penthouse 2nd year).
If you don’t get on with all your flatmates then the kitchen feels like no-man’s land, it’s easy to feel isolated even when there’s one or two that you are friends with.
There was a big mouse problem but potentially they’ve sorted that out by now.
The area it’s in is pretty bad, nothing to do. There’s a Spar nearby that has a security guard which tells you all you need to know.
The parcel situation is good, everything goes to a room in reception and I never had a problem getting anything.
The staff are nice.
Found it very difficult to get a landlord reference from them.
Don’t expect the room to be super clean when you move in.
The water pressure is depressing. You’ll be showering in a dribble.
The walls are paper-thin. I had a noisy neighbour that wasn’t in my flat 2nd year which drove me crazy. Also the fact that everything is hard flooring and the gaps under the doors mean that you can hear everything going on in your flat at all times.
Make good use of the maintenance team because your shower drain will inevitably get blocked.
The gym isn’t great, but it’s free.
If you can’t take your washing home at the weekend then good luck as the washers/dryers are provided by Circuit Laundry which is a complete scam. Very expensive and don’t work half the time.
There’s a general prison sort of vibe to it, designed like a panopticon (google it).
The gates were usually left wide open so anyone can get in.
This one might be a bit nit-picky but the lights in the rooms are too bright and cold (I hate cold white lights, they make everything feel like a hospital).
You will be freezing in the winter, the heaters are awful and you have to keep turning them on again after a couple of hours. If you keep it on then the air in your room will be dry as a cracker, my skin got very dry from this.
Overall, it’s fine if you have to stay here but I wouldn’t recommend returning.
If you can afford a bit extra (and have at least 1 person to move in with to reduce cost per person) try Get Living/Local Crescent/Oxbow, you get considerably more for your money. I’d recommend Get Living as I’m living there now and had the best experience in actually getting the flat (Local Crescent are difficult and Oxbow never replied to me). If you’re tying for one of those places then just...
Read moreI have lived in IQ for two years and have booked in for my third. It's a safe and secure accommodation and feels like you live in a lovely little bubble. It's close to everything you need including Salford university, 'the pint pot' pub, as well as local shops etc.
IQ itself is super friendly. You get to know so many people from your own building and different ones. The office staff are always on hand to help with anything and everything. The maintence and cleaning team do such a good job! IQ constantly put on events for residents and friends of residents. At the end of both university years that I have lived in IQ, they have provided a 'fun day' full of inflatables, sumo suits, buckaroos etc.
In both years I have stayed in a type 2 room which is a lovely size and has pleanty of storage space. All rooms have en-suits which is perfect! Within the kitchen you get two cupboards each, a draw and a shelf in the fridge and freezer which is perfect for just one person (If you need any extra room, I'm sure flat mates will always be happy to share- mine always have).
IQ Salford has a social hub where you can throw party's, play pool or watch the sky tv. It also has a newly built on site gym! As well as FREE wifi and free contents insurance!!
All in all, If you want an a fun, friendly, safe accommodation that's close to everything you need, then IQ is defiantly the...
Read morePlatinum rooms are very spacious and come with a double bed as well as their own sofa. The en suite was all right, with a reliable shower. However, the walls are thin: I could hear my neighbour’s alarm as well as him hacking up phlegm every morning. The corridors and kitchen have a prison-like feel to them. You have to provide your own basic essentials such as kettles and toasters, and vacuum cleaners needed to be borrowed.
It’s a dodgy area: phone-muggings and car keyings were an almost weekly occurrence. This was only made worse by the unacceptable lack of security: the gate was regularly broken and so anybody could enter. Since the fob reader on the flat buildings sometimes broke and took several days to fix, literally any person off the street could get right up to my door if they wanted to. Unsurprisingly, trespassers would enter the complex and try to break into rooms.
Laundry service is provided by the abysmal Circuit Laundry. Right outside the site, you can find a Greggs, Subway and Spar which is handy. There's a small gym and common room, but I didn't use them- the less time I spent here, the better.
I was constantly disturbed by truly awful people living below me and the staff can’t really be described as friendly. As a postgraduate, I wouldn’t recommend living here. It's perhaps better suited to freshers with...
