The accommodation could have been cleaned a bit better when new students were arriving as I had a scratched up desk and stains on the carpet. Thankfully there is a online form to fill out when you arrive so that you can tell them about these things. The accommodation itself is very nice and modern with plenty of space. The showers a abit small and I end up banging my elbows off the sides a lot. The walls are paper thin and if you live at the end of the hallway you can hear everything in the kitchen and everything in the bedroom next door to you. This can be a problem when people are cooking and using the sink at stupid times. People also slam their bedroom doors late at night, which wakes me up, but that’s a problem with having not very nice flat mates. One thing I have also noticed is that no one asks to see ID, so security isn’t too good but thankfully nothing has happened. The laundry room could be improved as you have to go in the morning or while everyone’s at uni to get a spare washer and some people seem to leave their washing in the machines all day. The washing system seems a bit strange too as you can only top your card up £5, £10, £15... but the washes are like £2.60 so you can’t even get two washes out of £5 which can be annoying. Iv also had the problem that my clothes havnt washed very well at all and some pieces of clothes are still dry when I take them out of the washing machine. The package system was good at the start of the year as I would receive a email saying I had a package... however this stopped after a few months so I had to go down every few days to check I had a package. One of the staff members are lovely at reception but the rest are horrible and grumpy. Packages I have bought have often been broken as I see some of the staff dropping packages and not really caring when it says “fragile” on the box. Looking out my bedroom window was horrible as there was rubbish all in the grass. There was one day it was all cleaned up but then the following day people had thrown rubbish out their windows and it was back to being polluted again.
Overall it’s a great accommodation for first years but very expensive when comparing to house prices. And the parking is just under the accommodation and is around...
Read moreDon't waste your money, they get enough from your rent and yet they still have a sponsored app for everything. It'd be a lot easier if the washers just took change, but instead they have Washstation which barely works. The room was dirty when I moved in, despite having a note saying that the flat was "clean". There wad dust and cobwebs everywhere not to mention sticky carpet stains. We were meant to have a kettle and hoover, but didn't have either for 3 days after asking repeatedly. The kettle supplied was faulty and tripped half the electronics in the kitchen including the fridges, meaning we chucked out food. We eventually got a replacement thanks to the helpful night staff, the day staff aren't particularly helpful. We had no hot water for weeks. This seems like unnecessary whining, but when you are paying for something you expect to get it.
Campus Living Villages are a pain as a whole to deal with as I had to pay for an extra term from my savings when I moved from Eddie Colman here, I was told by day staff that if I've already payed for both, but am leaving Eddie Colman that I'd receive a refund, that was a lie, I was later told that it would instead be on my balance on the website and that it will go towards my next payment, I wanted my money back now so that I could pay for next term as my finance comes in, but apparently I would be in debt if I had my balance put back in my bank. How would I be in debt when I've already payed more than I need to? I am hoping that nothing goes wrong and that when my next payment goes out that they do use the balance with some of my direct debit. I can't afford to be overcharged.
On a positive note, it's nice that the place is near to my classes and the layout of the rooms is also decent, though the walls a bit thin.
We are encouraged to give our feedback to the campus living villages team, but that comes across as trying to mitigate bad PR...
Read moreMy experience here was generally good, my room was really nice, the location is great and it is some of the nicest halls I’ve seen. However there are many things that have left myself and others disappointed, take photos of literally everything in your room and communal space the second you walk in on your first day and once you leave at the end of your contract, I’ve had friends get charged for damages that were there when they arrived but they didn’t notice to document in the inventory report, I’ve even seen people charged for damages that have previously been payed for or that are from different rooms, my friend was done £65 for a scratch in her desk that was to small for her to notice and document. I was charged for a key card I had returned however they did refund this once I pointed out to them I had returned it. The front desk staff vary in helpfulness massively some of them are genuinely nice and helpful when you go to them however others are just rude and lazy. Another annoying thing that you aren’t informed about before you move in is that every month maintenance come in to your room to check your shower temperatures and there have been occasions where my shower was left dirty and messy once this was done. They also test the fire alarms every week incredibly inconsistently you aren’t told that it will happen so in my flat whenever the alarm went off we didn’t know if it was real or just them testing it. We also frequently received mail that wasn’t ours in our mail box. I also witnessed a friend of mine be secretly bullied in their flat when they asked for help it took three months for them to be moved to a new flat. I did enjoy the free gym and the village life events that were hosted. My overall experience was good but I think many people’s overall experience was completely ruined by the ridiculous fees charged to them when...
