Nice wide open beach when the tides out. The bridge crosses Bielwater, a little stream on it's way to the sea. The bridge has a metal grate walkway which my dog didn't like so had to carry her. More adventurous dogs can just swim across easily. It's in an SSSI so March to September you have to keep your dog on a lead to protect ground nesting birds. September to March, there can be seals so you're asked to keep dogs under control. Can see Bass Rock from here as well. Car park was £3.00 for the day and the ticket can be used in any East Lothian coastal car park so you can visit Gullane etc if you want. There were 4 Motorhome bays which you can pay £10 for one night and limited to one night stay. There is free public toilets there which is handy. We visited 17/1/25. All in all, nice to visit as part of an itinerary of...

Most other reviews cover pretty much all there is to say, but I will mention that if you have a dog who isn't a fan of the water you might have to carry your pooch across! Ours wasn't keen walking on the metal grid (pictured), but she found an alternative way across - splashing happily across the stream!
We ended up walking all the way along the beach from here (took 40 mins at a dawdling pace) and there are plenty benches and seats at the Belhaven end so you can sit and people watch if you want to while...

The bridge is something of a misnomer because at low tide it is actually used by locals to cross the stream and enter Belhaven Bay beach. However, after the tide comes in, water rushes in and fills the surrounding land, isolating the bridge.
There is a large car park next to the bridge which is beside the town's surf school. Another access point for Belhaven Sands is at John Muir Country Park on the other side of the bay, from here access is available at all times...
