This historically significant place houses a wonderful collection of Scottish heritage ie Pictish symbol stones and more. Present church built in 1884-8 but archaeological research indicates a much older medieval church overlying even earlier burials. Fascinating place run by dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers which is funded by donations. A very worthy cause deserving of support! Highly recommend a visit ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

A hidden gem. Typical Victorian church with relatively modern but elaborate stained glass windows. Main attraction is the Viking sarcophagi found nearby. Background info on display or from volunteers. Only opens after 1 o'clock. Handy for picturesque tiny free Govan Ferry that goes to Riverside Museum. Graveyard also worth wandering round. Close to buses and Underground station, and local Govan worthies.

Govan Old Church is an absolute MUST SEE experience for anyone visiting Glasgow. Whether you're in town for a day or a week, your time will be well spent here learning about the 1500-1700 years of history the church and its site have. One of the docents opened the Church early when he saw us standing outside and then gave us a brilliant, well-versed tour of the Govan Stones and their various histories, and symbolisms. We came here on a lark, and I think I'll be hard pressed to find a cooler spot in...
