We booked for 2 people at 6:30pm on a weeknight to celebrate finishing our uni exams and were told when booking that we would have the table for 1hr 45mins and needed to finish by 8:15pm, which seemed plenty. We were seated at a booth for 4 or 6, even though we were a small party, but appreciated the lovely private table. Our server was absolutely fantastic - so friendly and helpful, really couldn’t fault him, and the starters came out very promptly and were fresh and delicious.
But then we waited 45-50 minutes in between our starters and our mains with no update from the waitstaff as to when our food would be coming. We had already decided to get desserts and perhaps another cocktail each, but only a few minutes after finishing our mains (and we are quick eaters!), we were approached by a different waiter who cleared our plates and quite abruptly asked if he was okay to bring the bill over as another party were waiting for our table. We felt in a very awkward spot and unable to say no, so paid and left. Our bill had been pre-printed at 8:08pm, so even if we had pushed it and asked to see a dessert menu or ordered more drinks, our second server seemed to have already decided we were finished.
We had been so impressed with the food but it left a really sour taste in our mouths to be asked to leave so promptly. Waiting 50 mins for mains is not ideal but understandable on a busy evening, but turfing out paying customers who had to wait that long and who were about to pay more in order to seat new people feels like poor form. I work in hospitality and I understand the necessity to turn over tables, but we were left feeling that Suissi valued the 4 customers waiting for our table more than the ones currently using it.
Our original server was fantastic and the food was delicious, so I can see why they were so busy. Perhaps Suissi need to consider whether 1hr 45mins is actually enough time for each sitting, or arrange more tables for 2. We hadn’t researched the menu beforehand and it took us 20 minutes to order - we were waiting 50 for mains which leaves only 35 minutes to eat your entire meal. We booked for a special occasion and our bill came to over £80 (and would have been £120 had we been able to stay any longer). The food is 5* and the service was initially great but didn’t match up in the end. Unfortunately we’re...
Read moreFreezing, atmosphere lacking “restaurant”.
When booking I was told it would be for two hours. Why are so many restaurants treating paying customers, spending their hard earned cash on a “nice meal”, as something akin to a sitting at a school dinner cafeteria? Probably shouldn’t have booked but was induced by the previous reviews.
On entering I was dismayed at the dowdy furnishings and figments. Furthermore it was apparent that there was either no heating on or a severe lack of heating. It really is a basic for a restaurant to be warm. It isn’t asking too much to sit in some sort of comfort when eating your meal.
When seated we were told by no less than three different people how to decipher the menu. Again as an adult male and female the menu shouldn’t be an exercise akin to the times crossword.
On that point when asking the location of the gents toilets I was told in no uncertain terms that there were two “gender neutral toilets” by two patronising adolescent staff members. On entering the gender neutral toilet on the left, I found myself in a utility cleaning room with a curtain. To the right was the toilet. Three men’s urinals (no way an adult female or woman could use same) and a room with a toilet pan! I would hate to think of my daughter coming out of that room to be confronted with a male using the urinal!
On returning to my seat my partner still had her coat on due to the lack of heating. Enough was enough, we decided to leave.
If this is the best Glasgow can do then we really are in a sorry state. If I could give no...
Read moreI was here about 2 months ago with my Malaysian friend, and I still tell people about the dinner I had here!
My friend and I shared our starters. We ordered achar, which was super fresh and hit a good spice level. We also had XO sauce carrot cake, which was just perfection on a plate: super soft and tender cubes of carrot cake, charred to perfection on all sides. Absolute star of the meal, but I believe it was on their temporary holidays menu. Hope they make it a staple.
For my main I had laksa, and while it wasn't as good as the vegetarian laksa I used to get at Marina Square back home in Singapore, it was comforting and rich and spicy and delicious. My friend had Cantonese crispy noodles, and aside from him wanting to have little bit more broth with it, it was perfect: crispy and flavourful. We shared some pisang goreng for desert, and that was very tasty as well.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. We were given excellent service. Will definitely plan my next visit to Glasgow such that I can have at least one other meal...
