Prefect for small children

We have a 4 & 6 year old, so looked hard to find something suitable. This was perfect!

Parking at Gail road, it’s a dead end and does enable you to start the walk quite high up. The walk starts at the bottom of the car park, with a sign to keswick, rather nicely for the kids it’s a down hill start so bit of fun until the junction sign posted to latrigg left and up. It’s a decent stoney path to the summit with no scrambles. It took us 1.5 hours car park to the top and back again. At a fair pace for little ones. We gave them the odd haribo at the corners which helped. :-)

I hope people with little ones read this and try it as it’s a great first peak and sense of...

Standing at 368m, Latrigg summit is not one the highest but my word, it has one of the best views in Cumbria.

Starting at the free car park it's an easy walk of about 20 minutes to get to the summit. The surface is very well groomed and so it's accessible for almost anyone.

Near the top there's a seat which has a view over Keswick. A great photo opportunity.

Onwards and upwards... Not far to the top and worth it for the views.

Pitch the tent and look towards Derwent and Keswick. Outstanding. The sunset was stunning. The blackness of that particular night I even witnessed a meteor shower. True magic.

One of the easiest in the lakes... Get...

The summit of Latrigg Fell provides stunning views looking towards Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake and a good starting point to ascend Skiddaw. Close to Keswick it can be reached by taking the minor road upto Ormathwaite toward Applethwaite which is just off the A66/A591 roundabout. Take the road on the right just that leads to Underscar Manor hotel, it is a narrow road that takes you up to a free car park close to the summit of Latrigg. At busy times cars will be parked on the road and with few passing and u-turn places, if driving it is advisable to go continue right up to car park if no...

Just my view, but what a view! I visited here during the rain, surrounded by sheep and clouds. But still, there is something magical up here. High to one side is Skiddaw, and to the other, Derwentwater stretches to the south. Behind is Blencathra, where I approached from. Up here is some of the best views of the Lake District. Down below, Keswick isn't as far as it looks, and for the most part, all downhill! So if you're hungry from trekking up the hill, you'll soon find food down the hill :)
