Challenging for rolling ramblers 👩🏽‍🦽 and wobbly wanderers 🩼 thanks to poorly maintained tarmac in carparks and a very aggressive anti-car ditch (photos) alongside the car park. The view from the carpark is broken by trees, those unable to make it to the top of the hill can still enjoy sunrise and sunset from multiple angles offering different views of surrounding hills and landscape. The War Memorial side of Barr Beacon is more accessible, this side offers a wilder experience and better kite flying locations. This car park is a popular meeting spot during the day for sports like cycling horse riding and jogging, walking dogs (and other pets) exploring with families and friends. Sunset is very busy as locals gather to enjoy the view and after dark you'll find mostly young people, sitting in cars listening to music (they remind me of the time I believed bass should be felt in my bones, when my audio equipment and subwoofer were as expensive as my car and could be heard in the next borough💭) and gazing at the pretty lights in the distance/stars in the sky until the gates are closed for the night (currently around 9.30pm) Star gazing here is much easier than parks closer to the city. It can be very Wuthering Heights bleak here in winter but no matter the time of day or the time of year it's always beautiful. Makes me wish for a hovering wheelchair that can glide over ditches🫣 until then I'll save up for better mobility equipment to explore more.

I had a lovely time here. It's so peaceful and everyone on the trail is super friendly! I will definitely be coming back here, was a nice drive, a little difficult to find the parking but if you already know where you're going it's helpful (I struggled with map navigation but Google maps exists I suppose). If you're thinking of coming here for a lovely walk and a nice break from everything, I recommend it. It helped me feel so at peace! 100/100!! ?was

We came late in the evening to see whether we could watch the sunset but to be honest it’s not the best spot for it due to the many trees on the west side of the hill. Nice view of Birmingham’s night lights when it got darker. Next time will try to come at sunrise as it’s more open on the east side.

When I was still a school boy, many years ago, Barr Beacon was always an enjoyable site to visit. Breath taking views of the surrounding area, and on a clear day, a horizon to horizon vista reminds us all just what a green and pleasant land we live in. This site, despite being a war memorial, has been repeatedly blighted over the years by illegal camping and mindless vandalism, including the destruction of the memorial dome roofing, guard rails stolen and the area map burnt. We all need to be vigilant and protect this site for future generations and honour the memory of the fallen heroes it's dedicated to. Please report any and all anti social behaviour you witness...
