My wife & I live in the Birmingham Alabama area and we decided to hit as many haunted houses in the Atlanta area as we could in a night. So Friday, September 29th at 2 pm we left Birmingham headed to the Atlanta area. In this order, we went to Netherworld, Paranoia, Folklore, Nightmare’s Gate, & Hollis Haunted Chicken House. This is my review on Folklore.

This is the first time we have gone to Folklore & it will be the last. Let me start by saying I had high expectations for this haunt after talking on the phone to whom I suspect was the owner. He bragged that his haunt was the 2nd largest in Georgia behind Netherworld & that if you put containment & Nightmare’s Gate together that it would be about the size of his haunt. He also said that he had a bunch of animatronics & about 40 actors. His haunt may be the 2nd largest in Georgia, but size doesn’t matter in this case. There were a lot of animatronics & I’m guessing about 40 actors would be accurate as well. Upon arrival, we saw a lot of people standing in the parking lot, most of which were either workers or security. I only noticed one monster walking around. We left disappointed in the our experience. I felt ashamed for having it on our list of haunts to visit. Honestly, if Folklore is really just a little smaller than Netherworld then they need 100+ actors in the haunt to make it be comparable to the other haunts. I understand it takes guests paying money to be able to hire more actors, but it would be more logical to just have 1 or 2 haunts with a lot of actors rather than 3 haunts with only a few actors…or at least set it up so that the same actors can move through the haunt & scare you multiple times without it being overly obvious to the guest that it’s the same actors. It could have been good with more actors, but I can’t judge it based on how it could have been better, I can only judge it based on how it was.

The first haunt we entered was The Manor (I think). We were greeted by a worker dressed as a normal person who gave us a set of rules prior to entering. After entering we were able to enjoy the scenery/props/animatronics. We were able to enjoy them because of the lack of actors. There were several rooms that we walked through that there were no actors at all. It took us a total of 5 minutes to walk through the first haunt & I can’t recall my wife screaming at all….maybe once or twice at most.

The second haunt was Tremulous (I think). Again we were greeted by a worker dressed as a normal person who gave us the same set of rules prior to entering. Again we found ourselves enjoying the setup in each room, but because of the lack of actors, it was hard to really get into the mindset of being scared. About ¾ through the haunt, it merged with the first haunt & then exited out of the same doorway…btw which had 3 or 4 workers just sitting there hanging out. It took us 7 minutes to walk through this haunt.

The third haunt was Chromophobia (3D haunt). Unfortunately, after Netherworld, it seemed like a funhouse walk through that you would find at the fair or in Gatlinburg. I understand that according to their website that this is an all age haunt so I’m guessing that is why there weren’t but a couple of actors in there. We found ourselves talking about how pink & yellow pops out more than the other colors. It took us about 3-4 minutes to walk through this “attraction”.

P.S. According to a recent reviewer Folklore let them go through the first haunt & then delayed them going through the 2nd haunt until the monsters moved to the next haunt so that the customers were getting more scares & so the haunt doesn't seem as understaffed. In my opinion that is listening to complaints & trying to give your customers a better experience. Due to this I am increasing my review from 1...

Folklore is a highly recommended place to attend, it is welcome to any age there has been numerous of little kids that has been through these haunted houses and has not even got scared. However you have quite a laugh at hearing the older kids scream while the little ones might not it’s a way for them to show how brave they are so older kids are we really going to let the little ones out do us? It is a place you can go with family and friends and have a blast. Their are three houses you can go through for example “The Asylum”, “overload”, and my personal favorite “the manor.” Which some say is the scariest while others say Asylum is. So come on down to Acworth to the haunted house and tell us which one you think is scarier;and put the word out. Also folklore has special events all you have to do is go to the website and check it out. There is one special event I hear everyone is looking forward to which is the blackout this is happening November 5&6. The blackout is when everything goes dark and all you have to light the way is one glow stick. If you dare to come let’s test and see how brave you are. Let’s see “are you afraid of the dark?” Boys or girls are you looking for something to do with your friends or the ones you love come to the folklore Haunted House. We have people from all over. People come from Alabama, Virginia, and all over the world just to come see these haunted houses. Hope to see you there.! Please make sure you leave a rating so we know how...

The Manor was amazing! Asylum 87 was disappointing. They should direct the victims to The Asylum first and end on The Manor. It would have made the night alot more satisfying. It seems they put most of the budget on The Manor, it has amazing atmosphere and effects. The Asylum literally had empty rooms with no decor or actors. The Manor had something special every step of the way, the Asylum was 50% empty and we only saw maybe 5 scare actors. (Not counting the last 1/4th that just merged the two haunts so they repeated) Both attractions use the same last few rooms as an exit point so was not unique and was mundane. The midway was nonexistent, it consisted of 3 simple carnival games and 1 merch store. All the staff was VERY polite, friendly and helpful. (We and several others had to ask where the Asylum was located as it was not clearly marked. We paid for the R.I.P tickets, but save your money. The Manor only had about a 10 minute queue, The Asylum had no wait (most likely due to it being hard to locate without directions. They did a GREAT job of checking each victim's temperature and enforcing people kept their maks on. The costume designers and special effects makeup artist did a fantastic job of incorporating facemask on the scare actors and you would not even notice this until they get right up on you for a scare. Would have given 5 stars if not for the price of the tickets, with the lack of anything noticable in The Asylum this feels like one attraction...

the scariest thing about this haunted house is the extreme likelihood of twisting your ankle in their janky parking lot made of loose rocks and zero signage or anything telling you where to go. there was only one haunted house there even though we apparently paid for two. $60 for two tickets through a haunted house that lasted maybe ten minutes. it was supposed to be “the manor”, but it was pretty much all generic “spooky” stuff from the clearance aisle at spirit halloween on 11/1. i feel really bad for anybody who waited for hours. the “midway” was literally two ratty games they seem to have grabbed from the dumpster after the carnival left town. there’s a random little room with two caskets, a metal folding chair, and more of the cheap spirit halloween stuff. also some cleaning supplies?? the merch they sold outside was better quality than anything else in the place.
