Just returned from a volleyball tournament at this complex this weekend. As I tried to enter the building I was stopped and told I couldn't bring food in with me. I explained that my son was a type 1 diabetic and that it was a medical necessity. They told me to speak to a woman, whose name is Lisa. I went over to explain the situation to her and she was so unbelievable rude. She said I couldn't bring in food even after I explained to her that it was medically necessary.
She said you can buy food at the concession stand. I said "so my son's bloodsugar is crashing and I am suppose to wait in your concession stand line and hope that he doesn't fall into a coma." She replied, "Yes". I tried another approach. I said "Diabetics are protected under the Disability Act and you asking me to not bring in his medicine is like asking someone to leave their wheelchair outside." She said, "The answer is No."
I called the facility and left a message. I still haven't heard back.
I am happy to explain the law to the facility and accept their apologies, but until I get a call I will assume that they are as ignorant and unempathetic as their representative LISA.
Time to call the JDRF and the ADA.
The ADA protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination in various aspects of life, including employment, public accommodations, and government services. Public spaces and services (e.g., schools, restaurants, or transportation) must ensure that individuals with diabetes can manage their condition without facing discrimination. This includes allowing individuals to carry necessary supplies like insulin, glucose tablets, and...
Read moreThe center is clean, super updated, and has plenty of state of the art equipment. As far as playing softball here for a midnight round robin event, there are 3 fields. One baseball infield, one softball infield, and one multipurpose field. Both softball infield and multipurpose field had odd layouts that eliminated or repositioned outfielders. The warm ups for the games were in the batting cages with 15 minutes to throw on the field (not ideal but we made it work). Space was very tight during warm-ups and the dugout situation was a little weird, not much guidance from staff. Overall, it's better than playing...
