There isn’t enough I can say about it! We booked our trip to Alaska, solely based off of seeing a video from the backcountry tour. We tried to visit in 2020 and Matti was so quick to respond via email to help answer questions. However, with covid that put a damper on our plans. When I emailed Matti in 2021, she remembered and was so VERY responsive and helpful in booking a cabin for 2 days and the full day tour. We were playing phone tag but she was so patient with me as we have a 3 hour time difference.

We finally booked our trip to Alaska AND our cabin stay and tour so we were so excited!

The day before our stay Linda texted me to Introduce herself and that was extremely thoughtful and that made us look forward even more so to staying there!

When we arrived at the cabin we saw a moose and her two calves! That was so awesome! The cabin was stocked with coffee and snacks also! The cabin is BEAUTIFUL. I would definitely recommend staying there also. It was so cozy and comfortable, We didn’t want to leave!

The day of our scheduled tour, it was raining very heavily and Matti texted me to see if we wanted to go or to reschedule to the next day. We really wanted to stay an extra night but it was booked - however, Matti was kind enough to help look for another stay for us so we could go the next day! That was so sweet of her.

I am happy we took her advice to go the next day. That morning, we checked in (such an easy process) and Matti got our gear for us. They gave us jackets, pants and boots along with helmets and goggles so we didn’t have to get our clothes dirty! Our guide, Doug was AWESOME! He was very personable and made us laugh throughout the entire trip and was very helpful as I gave him the job of being our photographer! Such a good sport. I get cold easily so when we finally reached the glacier, he offered me his jacket so I would stay warm - seriously the sweestest gesture! He also took a lot of pictures and air dropped them to me after the tour.

The full day tour was AMAZING. We really enjoyed ourselves and the lunch itself was delicious! I’m so glad we made it here and I appreciate Matti and her team for everything!

I would definitely recommend this ATV tour over others and stay at this Cabin if you can! This was the highlight of our trip and I can’t wait...

Absolutely incredible experience and excursion from start to finish. Where do I begin… My brother in law and I were looking to experience some Alaska snow machining at its finest and to see the Knik glacier up close, as many moose as possible and other wild life and of course scenery while having fun with the snow machines.

We are both experienced riders but for this, you do not have to be.

Alaska Backcountry Tours uses brand new Skidoo Expeditions with the 900 ACE engine. It’s a big sled however is still easy to handle for any skill level rider. They even have visor heater plugs so if you bring your own helmet, be sure to pack your cord!

They will also outfit you with any gear you need. We brought our own however it was not required.

Our ride took us out and back to the Knik glacier about 60 miles total. Stopping along the way to view wild life and the amazing views, also to rest and grab a snack or the best hot cocoa I have ever had in my life.

As far as wildlife goes on the route, we saw over 20 moose, a couple eagles, a bunny and even some mountain sheep, which our guide Tim spotted from over a mile away.

Speaking of Tim, amazing guide. Full of stories and fun facts he shared along the way. He knows the area like the back of his hand and is very skilled in making sure you have a great time and get to see what you want to see. Tim is awesome! He didn’t rush us at all and is just an all around great guy.

Booking the excursion was also very easy and affordable compared to other outlets. You definitely get what you pay for and then some! Maddie was awesome in answering my questions before I booked and made me feel very comfortable with what I was signing up for. They will accommodate just about any thing you would like to see and do, within reason and weather permitting of course.

We did the full day excursion and let me tell you, it was a full day! Not a dull moment went by. Memories were made and amazing scenery instilled the mind for life.

10/10 will definitely be back next...

Wow. I cannot imagine my first trip to Alaska without this experience. Thank you to our guide, Jack, for making sure that we squeezed everything possible out of our day together.

My mom and I were able to spend an entire day venturing out to a glacier and glacier lake via side by side on a route that was both exciting and paced in a way that allowed us to take in the scenery and wildlife. We ventured through the Knik river banks, glacier wash, and ultimately trails leading up to the Knick Glacier.

On the way out, we were able to see Dall Sheep coming down the rock face, and we parked in the river wash for photo ops and to learn about the glacier silt. We stood in the river, which wasn't an issue because they outfitted us with everything we needed to stay warm and dry - rain gear, boots, helmet, gator, goggles, etc..

Once we were at the glacier, we had time to take in the scenery and take pictures while Jack prepared a hot lunch for us over a campfire. Someone in our group even did a polar plunge - our guide took pictures and supervised! I spent my time taking a ton of pictures while learning from our guide about how much the glacier can move in a day. We spotted a bear above us, and we spent some time watching him with the binoculars they provided.

On the way back to our base, Jack took us through thickets of bush, water crossings, and even an area where we were able to throttle up a bit. He spotted a moose that I was looking directly at without realizing.

I cannot recommend this tour company or Jack enough, and I cannot wait to do this trip on snow machine the next time I am in the state.

Pros: Trip Duration Guide Skills Wildlife Spotting Equipment/weather-appropriate clothing included Family run Photo Ops Delicious Hot Lunch

Cons: Honestly cannot think of any so long as you realize that you'll need to get to their outfit (easy drive from Anchorage).

Again - thank you, Jack. You made our first stop in Alaska so fun, and it helped set the tone...

Absolutely an incredible experience!!!!! I can’t say that enough! Family owned business whose owners are passionate in what they do. Matti responded immediately to my email and she was friendly, helpful, and patient with my questions. Ben was our guide and he was energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area and the glacier. I did the Knik Glacier ATV Tour in August 2018. The tour groups are small and you never feel pressured to go faster than you want to go or do any obstacles you don’t feel comfortable doing. Once at the glacier we had time to explore while Ben cooked our hot lunch over the fire. On our return trip we took a different route back so we could experience other trails. Not once on the tour did I feel uncomfortable, nervous, or unsafe. They provide you with helmets and mud boots, but also offer rain jackets, rain pants, safety glasses/goggles, gloves, and dry packs. Depending on the time of year I would recommend leather gloves to keep your hands warm. I initially started with my neoprene gloves and twenty minutes in my hands were freezing. Luckily Ben had a spare set of gloves I could use. In the past I have only done 1-2 hour ATV tours and have been on trails that are flat. The Knik Glacier ATV Tour trails are more demanding than a flat road. I am putting this out there to inform people who have similar ATV experiences as me, because I was sore for days after this tour. Sore to the point where I had trouble walking down stairs. But it was absolutely worth it! I’ve decided that when I do this again, I think I would choose to drive the side by side ATV instead.

There are some things in life you can only see once. There are, of course, the types of sights you only see one time because you only visit that location one time. I have no idea if we will ever be back to Alaska. I hope we come back. What I’m really talking about though is the type s of things that leave such a lasting first impression that they literally move your soul because you have never seen anything of that nature that was so extraordinary. Yesterday was such a moment We were riding our CanAm X3s and headed to Exit Glacier to have a campfire lunch with other groups from Alaska Backcountry Adventures. When we got out of the UTV we saw a lake with tips of icebergs and Knik Glacier stretching out behind it. My husband and I, and our guide Logan, were the first to arrive. I walked down to the water and was able to sit on a rock all by myself in complete solitude while my eyes devoured the beautiful scene in front of me. You could hear the water trickle. I just can’t emphasize enough how beautiful the scene was. We saw 2 moose sightings. Had an awesome ride. This was an intermediate level ride and we were truly able to ride. When you are experienced you want to be able to ride at your skill level. Logan made this happen. Ian (a guide from another group) helped us find our first mouse sighting. The equipment was top notch. 2025 CanAm Mav X3 Turbo with 150 miles on it. Quality rain gear Columbia. When you see the investment this company has made to provide you with such an experience you know you got your money’s worth!
