Great company with a solid customer focus run by nice people. We rented for Dalton highway from these guys after comparing the quote from Alaska auto rentals and Go north, and arctic outfitters was cheapest. Their rental is by calendar day and not by hours of the day (as one of the reviewer made that mistake I think) and it was ok with us because we were going to return the car by the midnight of the last day anyway. We got a Ford Escape (as expected) with M+S tires and extra full size tire and CB radio (which we didn't really need and there wasn't much traffic on channel 19 anyway).. Regaeding the car, well it's surely not a brand new car but I then was not expecting one and it did the job on gravel road just fine.... I felt Dalton highway isn't as bad as internet would tell you and you must do this trip once in a lifetime. The road is so secluded and you feel so close to the nature and your surroundings. Anyway it was a great experience with arctic outfitters. Justin explained the car well during the check in, and Sherri resolved any concerns we had about the rental upon our return with utmost professionalism. We would surely return to Dalton highway again and will rent from here...
Read moreWe picked up a rental car for our drive on the Dalton Hwy. Car was fully equipped with CB radio, full spare on rim, tool kit, and first aid kit. They were informative upon pick up and very responsive. I sent an email to them on Sunday while we were in Coldfoot (they’re closed on Sun) and received a response back quickly. Dropped the car off at around 10p and it was a quick in/out. If you’re thinking that maybe a special rental isn’t necessary for your trip up the Dalton Hwy, I strongly encourage you to reconsider. There was a van that didn’t have the proper equipment and the family was stranded on the road for 8+ hours waiting for a tow. Commercial rental companies won’t allow their cars on the road and it can make for an uncovered expensive tow (sometimes $5/mi) and repair - not to mention you don’t have a way to communicate via radio with nearby cars/truckers via the radio (which we relied on) and zero cell service until Coldfoot. It’s expensive but there’s no other way to do it. Great service,...
Read moreGranted they are the only show in town for Dalton Highway car rentals, and we had a nice trip, but three things I didn’t like: 1). They give 250 miles per day, which is insufficient for round trip to Coldfoot, and they start your journey by pre charging you for 30 miles. 2) They will tell you it’s 10 hours to Coldfoot to get two days of rental from you, but we did it easily in 6.5 averaging about 40 MPH, with most of the stops. For our day we left at 8:30 and were back from Coldfoot at 11 PM. 3). The radio volume is locked out with Ford Mykey to a level of about 30% of maximum, which is nearly inaudible when traveling on the unpaved sections of highway (paired with iPhone). Would have been a better road trip with tunes, so bring your speaker. For a five star review they should be more flexible with the contract, offer more miles per day, and fix the volume issue (or at least be upfront about it). In conclusion pay the money or bring...
