So I have heard nothing but raves about this place. A few up front details, they were at 80% seating, Saturday at 5pm. That being said I will start my review. First and foremost I haven't a clue to what type of wait side service happens here, do you take my order, do I ask at the counter for my meal, when do I pay? What gives? The most unconventional type of service I think I have ever encountered. Felt somewhat confusing. The wait staff is friendly when and if they make it to your table. This leads me to believe they maybe understaffed.
Now the pizza, I have eaten at every pizza join in the Fairbanks area. I'm really not sure what you call this. Maybe this is a hippy, granola style place... You know, the place people go to eat crappy food only because it's trendy. Myself and everyone that ate our table agree, this is bottom 30% pizza for the Fairbanks area.
The plus side is the view of the flight line of Fairbanks International watching planes land and takeoff. The majority of the window seats facing the active have a few sets of binoculars to use while you are sitting there. Cold beer on tap to boot. I would go here to have a few and watch the planes do their thing (airport lounge style).
In a wheel chair or disabled, better order one to go, stairs are required to access. I am sure they can deliver to the bottom of them.
Two stars for confusing service and pizza I could cook at the house. Don't let wood...
Read moreI'm not a big fan of pizza - I'll eat it if I have to. (Yes, I've been to other nice pizza places in town, and have had pizza at a few places in Chicago.) My friends dragged me out here, and after years of avoiding it, here I was. We came before they opened, but there were already people waiting. That should have been a clue. There are two flights of stairs to get inside, then a narrow hallway. If you find this a deterrent, I recommend you to come anyway, take your time, and get friends and family to help. Or call in an order for pickup. Yes. It's worth it. Inside is a small waiting area with old plane seating and menus. Once inside there is a huge wood fired oven, and large windows to view the flightline and parked planes. Even on a gloomy winter day, it's beautiful. Little bits of older planes are incorporated into the restaurant, it's fun to look around. Let's talk about pizza though. The dough is hand-tossed to order, and perfectly soft and doughy while still being a thinner crust - not crunchy! Love it. Make sure to try their specials, as well as their marinara sauce. I think they have created a vampire-free zone with the amount of garlic they use in it (where can I buy a tub of this?). I did not include pictures of the food, unfortunately it disappeared faster than anticipated. Try everything - appetizers, pizzas, specials, desserts. The people working here can do no wrong - if it's on their menu, it...
Read moreA delicious lunch was had at East Ramp Pizza! This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Location is right on the air strip and there are huge windows to watch all the aircraft landing and taking off. You select your food choices on slips of paper and turn them in to the cashier when you’re ready to order. There is a nice variety of sauces, meats, toppings, and cheeses to choose from. We actually just returned from Italy so seeing “prosciutto, fresh mozzarella balls, and fresh basil” on the options made my Italian-pizza-loving-heart sing- and of course in Italy all pizza is wood fired so this was truly a welcome experience here in Fairbanks to be able to reminisce a bit even if it wasn’t exactly the same! Our appetizer was pepperoni rolls with the absolute best sauce served on the side- my gosh it was delicious! Our pizzas came up soon after that- all exactly as we ordered. They were delicious! Husband loved trying the different brews they had there also. We will definitely be back and will bring our kids next time as I’m sure they will love having similar “Italian” pizza again and also will...
