Skyboats routinely appear and depart from this place; I have personally embarked on and emerged from over 10 large skyboats at this location. It is a convenient airport for getting to the city of Fairbanks, being colocated. It has a road (memorably named Airport Way) directly adjacent where vehicles can be driven to and from the airport, but also sidewalks and the shoulder of the road extend into Fairbanks if you like walking to and from skyboats. The airport is also close to the Chena river if you need to access a skyboat from a riverboat; portage can be accomplished along Dale Rd. and Schoenburg Ave. The Tanana river is also directly adjacent but access is fraught with a large delta system and on the opposite side of the airport entrance and so I don't recommend portage from there, but instead navigating the confluence of the Chena and Tanana rivers to disembark closer to the North-East of the Airport. It is also possible to access this airport by personal or chartered skyboats at runway 2R/20L, although you may not be allowed to taxi directly to the main terminal in this case; check with ATC. If you have pontoons on your skyboat, runway 20W is available, and so is gravel/ski runway 2/20. It is likely in both of the latter two cases that taxiing to the main terminal is even harder. I have not used these prior runways and can't vouch for any runway but 2L/20R which has effectively gotten me to and from the airport each time when I needed to use a big skyboat. There is long term parking for motor vehicles but no stables for horses or dogs, which is why I can only rate this...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. I took a temporary job in Fairbanks me my disabled husband and our 2 labs one of which is his certified service dog. My contract is now up and we were all set to fly back on the 25th. Dogs are exactly the same as when we flew here same kennels still has the alaska airlines stickers on it. But the horrible employees at the desk denied my service dog saying he was to big understandable for in the cabin but in cargo im not understanding how he was able to fly in the cargo here out of Detroit but now we can't get back home. Not only was the staff extremely rude but they had zero empathy for our situation. I've already reached out to several lawyers about this and will be pursuing legal action. I now have to pay over 6grand to get me and my disabled husband wdogs down to haines ak to get on a ferry for 4 days and additional 6 day car ride from Washington to Michigan. Which I'm sure you can imagine since we sold are vehicle here this is very difficult with a disabled person and 2 dogs. Not only should Alaska airlines be held accountable but I think other people flying into FAI should be aware before bringing there pets because ALASKA AIRLINES is clearly not pet friendly nor do they care for the...
Read moreFAI is a small but still an International airport. Not many flights and not busy and overcrowded. The people who work there are friendly and smiling, not always the case at other airports, international or regional! Typically only busy once in awhile, just before a flight leaves and after a flight arrives. The Alaskan Airlines employees are the nicest of ANY airline! But Delta employees here are nicer than anywhere else! The only areas that could use improvement would be related to baggage. I have had more baggage damage flying into FAI than anywhere else. But to be fair, when that damage occurs I have always come from SEA (Seattle/Tacoma) Strangely several flights here my luggage has beat me here, when delayed elsewhere. And this is usually the situation for most travelers on the flight. In those cases, the baggage (claim) service desk person is typically overwhelmed with lots of people in the line. But this is better than luggage being lost or delayed! Then there are very few bags going to the carousel. And the Alaskan Air 20-minute luggage guarantee doesn’t apply since your luggage was here BEFORE you! I travel here on average twice a month. Other than the luggage thing it’s a...
