Bodenburg Butte — Local services in Alaska

Beautiful views. If you hike up one trail you may want to go down that same trail. We started at The Butte Trailhead (Sandvik Family Trail) and came down the other side, on the stairs and ended up at the West Butte Trailhead. We aren't from the Palmer/Wasilla area so we didn't know what to expect. There didn't appear to be a direct route back (without hiking back up and down again) to our starting point so we had to walk 5 miles around, on the Bodenberg Loop road, to get back to the car. When we were kids we used to climb the Butte a couple times a week just for something to do. Years later I went back and climbed it. I thought I was going to die before I reached the top. But the view from the top was still worth every step. I'm 72 now so I probably won't do it again, but if I find myself in the area...
