Southwest Style Mirrors & Furniture — Local services in Albuquerque

I am deeply disappointed by the abysmal service and products provided by Southwest Style Mirrors & Furniture. After placing an order for a bathroom medicine cabinet, linen closet, and a vanity for my parents newly remodeled bathroom. Initially, owner James Hessed requested a down payment of $1600 in cash for materials, followed by an additional $700 via Zelle. Despite the initial responsiveness, the situation deteriorated immediately after they received payment. Numerous scheduled appointments were missed, causing several issues with my parents good faith of the business, as well as complete disregard for their valuable time. When the medicine cabinet was finally installed, it was of dismal quality and required additional staining and repair, which was promised but never completed. Furthermore, attempts to inspect any remaining items (they claimed were being worked on), were fruitless. Scheduled meetings were repeatedly no showed, and the business was always found locked, leading to doubts about the existence of any furniture or even materials. Despite multiple attempts to rectify the situation over several months, including offering to accept raw materials in lieu ofa cash refund (that was what the down payment was supposed to go towards), Southwest Style Mirrors & Furniture failed again and again. The latest disappointment came when a scheduled pickup of "materials" (rather than a refund) on April 17, 2024, at 9 am was a complete no-show. My parents waited for nearly an hour at a locked business. At this point, it's evident that the business has no intention of fulfilling their obligations or providing any form of resolution. I strongly caution others against doing business with Southwest Style Mirrors & Furniture. They have shown a blatant disregard for their customers and their commitments. I am willing to provide all necessary documentation, including photos, texts, and payment receipts, to substantiate my claims. It is my hope that by sharing my experience, others can avoid falling victim to this deceitful business

You can see the quality of work and installation in the photos below ( I have many more I will gladly share) of the installed medicine cabinet. They cemented it to my parents adobe wall making it impossible to remove without significant damage. The large bolts that protrude inaccurately through the back of the cabinet don't have nuts on them, I guess because of the cement and the fact their measurements caused them to drill into the cabinets sides. The claim was "it isn't finished" and stated it would still need to be restrained and "fixed" insight. This never happened and multiple appointment to do so were missed. My parents weren't ok with someone staining something as it hangs on the wall in their new bathroom, but gave multiple opportunities for the wood repairs. Aside from the poor fit and finish you can see the mirrors edges are unfinished and sharp. It has already resulted in a family member cutting themselves. Update: Aug 24 2023* on Aug 20 2023 Google emailed me that owner responded to my 1 star rating about custom Murphy bed furniture supposed to be finished by end June LAST year 2022. We called only number we had for him the next day about his reply. A woman answered and said he would call the following day. Someone did call and we asked again for photos of bed/sofa before we drive 300 miles. It's been 2 days - NO photos, no texts and no follow up. Buyer Beware. Update: **Jul 25 2023 - Hesed James is a liar and a thief - DO NOT DO BUSINESS no finished product, no photos to prove furniture was even made, we did not cancel, we did ask for our down payment back 5 months AFTER bed supposed to be finished. We hung in 5 months trying to pick it up. We lost $2400 believing this con man!! On 4/18/22 we paid half-down payment over $2400 to build a custom queen Murphy bed/sofa combo. Contract stated 6-10 weeks completion by end of Jun 2022 because we were moving in July 2022. As of 11/9/22 after numerous texts to Hesed & phone calls and so many excuses, delays, AND not one photo of anything completed so we sent demand letter stated - "by 11/14/22 either produce finished product or give us full refund."...

The talent is there. The integrity is not. This is a lying, scheming, cheating family business. The journey to pick up an unfinished piece of furniture that was prepaid is indescribable. We finally decided to pick up the unfinished furniture because we had no other choice. Pieces are missing, the doors were not installed and were the wrong size, entire pieces were not stained. This after being told for weeks that it was finished and they were going to deliver the furniture. We paid another carpenter to finish the work.
