What WE Make — Local services in Algonquin

I'm happy to report that my search for the perfect desk led to What We Make. I was looking for something pretty unique and had explored stock desks for the better part of a year, to no avail. I needed a desk that could hold all of my computer peripherals, while not looking like a complete rat's nest of wires. Typical sleek, modern desks look great in the online photo, but have minimal cable routing/hiding options. On the other hand, traditional, enclosed executive desks often treat cable management as an afterthought, while also having things I just don't need like a hanging file cabinet.

When I first found What We Make (WWM) on Etsy, I fell in love with the look of their work -- lots of different reclaimed barnwood pieces. I sought to make the PERFECT tech executive desk and approached WWM about making a hybrid of several desks they had on their website. They were great to work with and the final product is fantastic!

First off, the quality and look of the wood is stunning -- tons of character and mixed hues. The top has flush, brushed metal grommets which drop down to a hidden cable management tray. The left interior of the desk has two open-faced shelves with routing holes at the back. Going open-faced is key to avoid overheating the components. I loaded it up with a laptop, mini-PC, subwoofer, and surge protection.

Was the desk expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for -- a custom piece with superb quality, coupled with excellent, personalized customer service.

Oh and btw, I was concerned about shipping the desk, since I live several states away. Their shipping was absolute perfection. The desk came fully assembled in a crate with lots of strapping and padding to ensure none of the surfaces were damaged. I'm looking forward to enjoying this desk for many...

From start to finish this company goes above and beyond. Their website features a live chat option (talk to a real person not an AI chat bot), the staff is friendly, helpful and professional. The furniture itself is high quality and done with exquisite craftsmanship. The delivery was smooth and done with a very good delivery partner/experience. Given the quality and full wood fabrication, their prices are competitive. If you want to invest in a custom piece that will last generations, you will not regret choosing WWM.
