Short Stacks — Restaurant in Algonquin

Hello! We visited Short Stacks for the first time yesterday morning, for breakfast. We went around 9:30 on a Tuesday and it was not very crowded. The place is a little on the smaller side but has ample seating. Wait staff was very kind and rounded our table often for hot coffee but not too often where it was disruptive. I ordered the senorita omelette with honestly potatoes and sourdough toast. We don't eat pork so it was nice to see they offer turkey sausage which I had added to my omelette without any issues. When the food came I was pleasantly surprised with portion size. I'm a big breakfast person and it's usually my main meal so the generous size omelette was a definite plus. Another major bonus was they didn't use processed cheese. All of the food was delicious. Potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I didn't need to add ketchup or salt. The only thing I didn't love was they only had Valentina and Tabasco for hot sauce options. They're both great but they both have very distinct favors. With breakfast foods a milder option like Louisiana would be much appreciated. Coffee was good. I'm like very strong coffee so I am not usually too impressed with coffee other places but Short Stacks makes it perfectly balanced. It's strong enough to please us folk but not so much to overpower people whom enjoy a lighter cup. This day it was just my other half and I, so I asked with them being a smaller restaurant if they can accommodate my family of 7 and they said yes! Naturally there may be a wait but it would be worth it to have such a lovely atmosphere, kind staff, and awesome food. This place is a total gem nestled in the historic district of Algonquin. I truly love this place, But this message is for the owner. I think it is EXTREMELY RUDE of you to have your hard working staff to stop preparing orders just to make yours. You have an amazing staff and to put them in a position like that is terrible business.

I placed an order in July 3rd at 707am . I arrived 10 minutes later and I knew I was early and waited. The young lady said 15 minutes over the phone. I said no problem,seeing I have never had any issues prior. You then show up and put all orders on hold just so the cook can make yours. I am a paying customer, remember those people who provide your location business.

Anyhow the cook was beyond stressed out as you watched over him to complete your order. Doesn't matter if your the owner. You should take care of your customers first.

Regardless to say your order was made and on you went with your merry self while I stood there waiting for 42 minutes and leaving your crew to explain to me why I had to wait.

I literally live right down the street from this place and I have never been here ! My Mom - my daughter and family have come here several times. But because I worked so far away in Richmond I never really get a chance to go out for breakfast or for lunch.. My aunt needed to run to the store and so I was taking her and she asked if I wanted to stop and have breakfast and to tell you the truth I'm not really a breakfast person, so I went in with her to see if they weren't busy because they were like always so busy jam packed ( I was told from Several people ) Obviously because of the GREAT FOOD and the GREAT SERVICE - and the availability to get to it, as it's right in the heart of Downtown Algonquin, And let me tell you - I will Most Definitely try my best to stop in whenever I have the opportunity. The restaurant is very unique with all the decor and is very sanitary - Handicap parking & ramp availability - plenty of parking...
