A Visit to Amarillo, TX ā The Anticipation of a New Buc-eeās
If you're someone whoās driven through Texas, chances are you've heard of Buc-eeās ā the legendary gas station, convenience store, and travel stop that has become a beloved part of the stateās culture. Known for its vast, sparkling clean bathrooms, endless snack aisles, and massive selection of souvenirs, Buc-eeās is a must-visit for anyone passing through. On November 22, 2024, I was eagerly anticipating a trip to Amarillo, TX, where a new Buc-ee's location had recently been built. However, my visit was met with a bit of disappointment.
As I approached the familiar highway exit for Buc-ee's in Amarillo, my excitement grew. I had heard that this particular Buc-eeās was one of the largest in the state, and I couldnāt wait to experience it firsthand. I was picturing myself grabbing a Beaver Nugget or maybe one of those delicious brisket sandwiches. I even had plans to take a few pictures for social media to show off the grandeur of this beloved chain.
However, as I pulled into the parking lot, something was off. The usual bustling energy of a new Buc-eeās location wasnāt there. In fact, the parking lot was completely blocked off with barricades, and there were several workers loading goods into the store. Clearly, the store wasnāt quite ready for customers yet. While I could understand that preparations for a grand opening can take time, I couldnāt help but feel a little disappointed.
It was evident that the workers were busy making sure everything was stocked and ready for the big day. From the massive delivery trucks to the staff bustling around, there was a palpable sense of anticipation in the air. I could almost imagine what the grand opening would be like, with eager customers rushing in to see what this massive new Buc-eeās had to offer.
Though I was disappointed that I couldn't walk through the doors and enjoy a classic Buc-eeās experience just yet, I was still impressed by the sheer scale of the place. The store looked like it was going to be a game-changer for Amarillo and for travelers passing through the area.
For now, I had to make do with my usual road snacks, but the excitement of the upcoming opening was enough to keep me motivated to come back when the store officially opened its doors. Iām sure that once this Buc-eeās is fully operational, it will quickly become a go-to stop for anyone traveling through the Texas panhandle.
So, if you're heading through Amarillo, keep an eye out for this exciting new addition. It might not be open just yet, but when it is, I know it will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRead to the end. This is like it's own city. Amazing in many respects. It's unfortunate they just want you to get your items and then get out. Overpriced items. The fuel price is good. But absolutely NO Squeegees or window washing provisions. NONE. There are likely 1000 parking spaces. Signs and cameras all over the place. I read one sign,, and if I am correct it said "parking for Buc-ee's customers only. All others will be towed". Well I bought fuel. So officially a Buc-ees customer. It was 9:30 at night and I was done driving for the day. Had driven 12 hours already. So I crawled into the back of my Pickup and went to sleep. Still likely 950 spaces unoccupied at that late hour. Or more. At 1:08 AM there was a LOUD banging on my Window. Not just a knocking with a knuckle. So I sat up. I saw a Man by my Truck and a Vehicle with yellow flashing lights. I looked and TWO MORE Vehicles were positioned diagonally with their bright lights shining into my windshield. MORE loud banging. I was confused and scared and was trying to find my keys to lower the window. But this Man kept banging on my window like there was this emergency. I finally yelled I could not hear him. He put his face up to the window and yelled "NO Over Night Parking" and a bunch of other stuff that I did not understand. He banged some more and then left. Then eventually the other 2 Vehicles left one by one. So, I went somewhere else to sleep. I understand overnight parking brings another element to the equation, but maybe be a little nicer to your customers and revise your signage. No overnight parking, or no camping would do. Honestly I am not sure I will ever go back there. The Sliced Brisket Sandwiches looked small and the condiments were out of stock. Plus a price of $8.50. I almost bought one, but now I will leave that for all the brave Souls. I might go in for fuel knowing the price is decent and I have to use the bathroom and grab some paper towels from in there if my Windshield needs attention. I got that figured out. Get it and...

Management - Put up signs to enter fuel stations from the entry point that take you to Speedco.
I like all of my Buc-ee's locations. Too bad I haven't captured them all over the last several years. Today, I was able to actually go to this one since it was only opened for its third day. I've been watching the construction over time as a travel the 40.
Today was a zoo!
They need to put up signs to show that you can make a left at the end of the street to get to the pumps from the other side. Everyone is trying to get to the property directly off of the main road entrance. Anyway, I was able to get to a pump rather quickly.
I had an issue with two different pumps, and a nice young man was able to assist me with my issue. Finding out I wasn't the problem, I was directed to another set of pumps. The reason I bring Christain up is because AT no time did he seem bothered or inconvenienced. He was cheerful, helpful, and thankful. Buc-ee's pays their people very well, and I hope he climbs the ladder with the company.
Don't forget to stop by here and get this fuel, a snack, some trinkets... and if you see Christain- say Hi.
You can't go wrong at a Buc-ee's. Heck, I may want to join the management team if I moved out of California.

I'm passing through Amarillo again and had to see my man Buc-ee for fuel.
It's quiet, and I took evening pics to show.

Iāve been by here countless times since my last posted visit. I have driven by here without stopping if I need fuel. To save time, I just a Murphys USA a few miles west to save a few cents a gallon when fueling up and getting back on the road. However, if Iām stopping to get a snack or want to use the restroom⦠then I do all of that here.
My only problem is not being able to clean windshields on high-profile vehicles...
