After severing 6 years in the Navy I wanted to use my Gi Bill for school. I picked AU because it was close by and they had a adult learning program. After 4 years of going there with 4 classes left It was a huge mistake. They are not a Veteran friendly school at all. They say they are on there web site but with first hand experience they are not. They just want the Governments and veterans Gi Bill money. They have one VA rep and all that person is for the school to pocket the the Gi Bill money. I have had to drop a class here and there a few times instead of refunding the money back to the VA they kept the money hoping no one would notice. The VA is on top of there game when it comes to these programs and the way I found AU was doing this was the VA took my Benefits for cost of Living away from me until the school pays the VA back. They do not have veteran programs or anything like other university's. They do nothing for Vets at all. Most of the people treat you well but they will treat you like a kid in the adult learning program. I have had to straiten out a few people real fast for talking down to me. I am 30 years old and did 4 tours in combat, they will not disrespect me. I have seen this happen to other adults on campus and heard it from other students. I will say that the adult learning or the ACCEL program they claim is for working adults, Someone or the instructors did not get that message at all because if you work a full time job it is a struggle to truly keep up with the work and the demands they force on you. Most class over load you and its unreal for a...
Read moreThey very well almost ruined my girlfriend's future. She decided to transfer after her first year, which wasn't exactly the school's fault. However, after paying her $200 housing deposit, they hit her with a late fee for apparently not making her decision sooner, but they didn't tell her! Part of transferring involves having records and transcripts sent, of course. So she requested all of that to be sent over the summer and went about her business. Everything seemed fine until she tried to sign up for Spring classes at her new school and couldn't because they never received her transcript. So Anderson never sent the information that was requested. Their reason? Because she never paid her late fee, which was an extra $200. She never got her original $200 housing deposit back despite not using campus housing (which isn't a huge deal), but on top of that they hit her with another $200 for the late fee. Then, once all of the fees were reluctantly paid, they were a WEEK late sending the transcript. They said it would be there on a Monday, and it didn't arrive until Friday. I can't speak much about how this school treats their enrolled student, but I promise you, they don't care at all about you once you leave. Otherwise they wouldn't still try to nickel and dime you for making a decision in your best interest--to leave. Very Christian of...
Read moreThe science department (bio, biochem, chemistry, physics) is amazing and so helpful in supporting students aiming for any graduate level education. Every professor pushes you to be better while also guiding you to be a better person and student. They are all straight forward and even step by step help you apply and learn about career options. I couldn't have asked for better mentors in that department. And I'm thankful every day that they invested so much in me and helped me get into medical school.
The school community in itself is not accommodating. I felt ostracized my first year being out of state and being minority. I almost transferred my freshman year because I was just that miserable living on campus. The community is not diverse by any means and it is 100% a suitcase school, despite what I was told when I visited before applying. I don't necessarily blame the school for the students attitude but I never felt welcomed or at home at Anderson after 4 years. I am also a Christian, and did not agree with many of Anderson's values, although their rules are not difficult to follow, just tedious.
Essentially, Anderson Univeristy has a fantastic science department, and I would rate them by themselves 10/10 but the community there I would rate 4/10. If you just want a great science education, they have it, but social life isn't...
