This is an amazing place to take your kids. If you go when the fish hatchery is open, then you can walk up and down the troughs where they are raising the trout, or you can see the inside hatchery where they keep the fingerlings before they are big enough to transfer. There is an air conditioned visitor center where you and your kids can learn about the hatchery and fishery science in general.
When you are done visiting the hatchery, take a walk down to the Dry Run Creek board walk just down from the parking lot. It is handicap accessible and they stock it with the mature trout. There are literally hundreds of fish in the stream. You must be 16 or younger to fish this creek, barbless hooks on lures only, no live bait! But your kids are almost guaranteed to catch a fish here. If you are adventurous, the board walk ends in a trail that you can keep hiking further upstream.
This is an amazing place, I would absolutely...
Read moreI really like this place. We visited it years ago and I wanted to see it again while we were in the area recently. It is a low-key attraction, just walk around and see the trout in their different growth stages, go through the little Visitors Center and gift shop, feed the fish if you buy a bag of food ($1.00), but it's a place I enjoy. The staff is friendly, the dam is next door and it's pretty impressive, and seeing the thousands of fish is just so cool! We didn't fish on the little creek beside the hatchery, but others were and they seemed to be loving it. We noticed that a couple of crows had managed to get under the bird netting and were trying to make a meal of some of the trout. Great place for kids to see and learn what a fish hatchery is. Free admission. Closes at 3:30 PM. Had a few...
Read moreWe had a great time at this free attraction in Norfork. They had restrooms toward the front of the entrance, which were convenient. They had so many rainbow trout and brown trout to view, varying in size from small to huge! Follow the painted trout on the walkway to enter the visitor center that has an informational wall filled with historical facts and a gift shop filled with shirts, jewelry, toys, coozies, and lots more! They also had $1 bags of fish food. It was fun watching the fish eat as we tossed in food! The staff were great people! We had a great time here and can’t wait to visit again! Check this place out if you are ever...
