Went to see Paula Cole last night in this converted barn-theater venue. Very rustic, earthy place that completely retains that charming, organic aesthetic, with wood-panelled walls and the faint smell of sawdust! It was beautiful especially with the dozens and dozens of tea lights dressing the walls. I have to say, however, my biggest issue were the seats themselves. Tiny and very uncomfortable. It wasn't even a situation of being too big, personally, and I think anyone would find these too small and just generally awful. They are cushioned but you find that that is immaterial when you get squeezed in like sad sardines in seating that is not at all fastened to the floor, causing all sorts of sliding and shifting about. Arm rests were totally loose and the seats were so close together that the woman in front of me could probably feel my desperate breathing. It was stuffy, too, and I ended up feeling so nauseous during the performance that, roughly 40 minutes in, I felt ill and had to run outside to be sick. I didn't return to my seat needless to say, as it was already a distraction to have to walk out. And there were multiple folks, of all different body types, complaining about this around us. I understand, you know, more seats, more money, but these types of venues typically strive for the complete comfort and enjoyment of the patron. Not Vinegar Hill I guess. In a post-COVID world, this is really an issue. Even without that consideration, I found this set-up honestly unbearable and it was enough to keep me from returning. ...

Read moreMy daughter and I attended a music performance yesterday by Jim Messina. I needed to hear Danny’s Song , House at Poo Corner, and Watching the River Run. Wow !!! Jim Messina knows his craft. And so do the other musicians. I’ve been to a lot of concerts and music performances and this one was top notch . Their timing was spot on and their songs were spot on. This is a small music venue. It was so intimate and peaceful and beautiful. I’ve never seen a six stringed bass before !! This man was amazing. So was the alto (?) sax player, drummer, keyboard player, and of course Mr . Messina. I want to see them again. Next time I would like to request Vahevala. The place to be for your live music any time of the...
