UPDATE 7/20/2020: Kurt from firearms nocked one out of the park for me. I was in search of a really hard to find firearm especially during this covid pandemic and after about two weeks of my request Kurt was able to find one at another Cabela's store and get it transferred. I thought there was no chance of finding it anywhere and I have checked many local stores. Kurt gets 5 stars but If it wasn't for bad past experiences with the store (see below) and the website issues there having it would be a higher overall review but it was a 1 before so good job Kurt (or Curt).
Went in to do a background check on 9-24 and went to the firearms line and no one round. Had to go and look for an employee which two gentlemen were standing there talking about a hunting trip. Went back on 10-20 since the background check had still not gone through to basically return a rifle I never got. Walked into the firearms line at 11:40. There was no one in front of me and watched 4 different employees walk back there and no help. At 11:55 it was finally my turn. At 11:58 the guy behind the counter told me he couldnāt do the return without a managers approval and he said manager would be there in a couple minutes. At about 12:15 still standing at the counter waiting I asked another employee to get a manager. 12:25 the manager finally comes up and as I was explaining to him that I have been waiting for this long and letting him know how poorly the customer service is he then tells me he canāt do the rifle return at the gun counter line and asked me to come with him to the gun library where I do and continue to explain how poor the customer service has been. As Iām waiting for them to do the return it became obvious they couldnāt do it back there. While they were running somewhere else to try and do the return I was then waiting in the gun library another 10 minutes then asked if I could follow them back up to the gun counter line because I had to do the return back where I started and swipe my card. The Green Bay Cabela's store is an absolute disappointment at least in the back by the firearms. The manager asked my to follow him around and I can only assume it was to hide hide how poorly they were and he sure didnāt seem to have a clue as to what to do. All in all it took 1 hour and ten minutes to return a firearm. There are much better places to buy firearms than to deal with this. I have complained 3 times in the last month and all about the firearms counter first was to the stores customer service, then to the online bubble that comes on, and now third time to a store manager. Cabela's your going to loose my business at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe experience Iāve had at this store is honestly some of the worst Iāve had in my life and itās just the Firearms Department. Every other department is totally fine and has no problem helping with your needs. First off all these guys in the department are grumpy men who get man when they have to help someone who looks younger except for Cathy who is the best employee in the department that wants to help and is absolutely amazing along with the gentleman whoās hair and beard are as white as snow.
The taller guy with glasses is very rude when you have a question about things and when you fill out your background check he leans over the laptop and watches you fill out your information and reads out information very loud which is against state law.
Recently when I was visiting on 2 separate occasions looking for a new competition firearm the round guy with brunette hair and glasses watch a husband help a wife fill out her background check which is against federal lawā¦.. and then the next visit while looking for ammo for my 308 I watched him yell at 2 Hispanic brothers filling out a background check where one couldnāt really read English. That really disturbed me as a Residential Native.
The guy with a bold head and goatee breaks customer confidently and reads things off of peoples drivers license and background check which is against federal law and state law, he Is constant rude when you just wanna check on a simple background check.
Itās really disappointing on how bad the customer service in the firearms department is vs the rest of the store. The younger blonde lady and the guy with the short Afro and glasses are amazing when it comes to the customer service counter and are always helpful. Brian from the cabelas club is another outstanding employee. The young gentleman and the ladies at the checkout lanes are way more help than the guys in the firearm department will ever be. I canāt really speak for the rest of the store but when I walk around they always ask me if I need help with anything with a smile unlike the firearm department. They will only help you if you look like a middle age blue color gentleman who looks like he makes good money.
Iām a big firearms collector and I love going to the range to shoot targets all day with my buddies. So when I say I bought a lot of firearms and ammo in the past as itās a big hobby for me, but I will no longer be buying anything from cabelas anymore. I would much rather drive 30 minutes south to Scheels, fleet farm or Nelsonās tactical who I very much recommend. I have spent over 20k in firearms from cabelas but I will no longer buy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJune 2025 I decided to see if improvements had been made since my last visit a few years ago. Pretty tired of the club member desk always asking me if I want to join. I tried to sneak around, but Cabelas had me trapped by a solid line of outdoor grills channeling me to the desk.
I ventured here to purchase a couple of kayaks, but decided on different brands elsewhere based on reviews. Ascend has some nice concepts, however, their boat material feels way too soft and easily damaged just from basic handling seen in the racks. I'm not fussy about material handling marks, but I do expect a kayak to experience minimal damage from rocks or whatever else is hidden in shallow waters.
Forget about finding a nice life jacket because they only keep a limited variety of small sizes unless it has the Bass Pro name on it.
One cashier and super long line, but at least he was friendly which is ten times better than self checkouts.
I'm still not bumping my rating because I gave big money to a better store to get what I needed. Same still goes for firearms here.
ā----------------ā-ā---------------- My opinion is still the same following my most recent visit 1.1.2022
I don't like the store since Bass Pro took over. This is no longer on any list of favorites. Patrons today were also very rude and pushy upset about limited supply. Societal changes since Covid-19. Helpful employees completely non existent. Shoe department had no one attending it and so much more. Might as well been closed for the holiday.
Previous review from two years ago below:
The gun library is a joke. Don't waste your time because it's almost impossible to attain service. Don't expect much for a trade-in or when looking to sell your firearm. The locally owned stores are ten times better when considering this option.
Service at the regular gun counter is hit and miss. Some associates are knowledgeable while others belong in different departments. Please know the difference between a clip and a magazine.
The longer I wait (hour plus) the more likely I'll spend my hard earned dollars elsewhere. You'll find my reviews accordingly on your search...
