This was our first overnight in the Cook Forest area - we found Fair Winds in an online search and I was very pleased with their booking process and online communication. They truly could not have been more pleasant, extremely professional as well! ||||We received our key at the Dry Goods Shop from the sweetest woman who was a wealth of local information and left you feeling like you had a nearby family member if you needed anything. ||||The cabin was easy to find and had the cutest porch, great, sturdy door opened to the most adorable cabin! And, on a chilly day, we were so pleased to be greeted by a fire in the gas fireplace that kept us toasty all weekend! ||||We were two adults, one toddler, with plenty of room to sleep, eat, play, shower, even a back patio for morning coffee! ||||Cabin 3 was unbelievably clean. For a cabin in the woods, unreal how clean this cabin was! I brought my own sheets being a neat freak and never needed them! The place is spotless! Need to mention great hot water shower, too!!! Nothing like a great hot shower after a long hike in the forest on a cool day, then sit by the fireplace in your cabin! This place is a dream! ||||Fire pit area is great, too! Nice space with charcoal grill, picnic table, starter wood. Plenty of space here for the little one to explore. It was so pretty and relaxing behind this cabin. We kept saying we didn’t even need to leave it to enjoy our weekend! ||||We had one minor issue with opening the sofa bed and the owner himself came out- even offered us another cabin! You really couldn’t get better customer service. They really make you feel like family here. ||||It’s a breeze to book and check-out- dumpster right nearby for your garbage. ||||It’s super quiet here! It’s a good thing, but depending on your situation keep that in mind, I’d assume that for probably any camp ground or hotel though, and maybe bring a sound machine if you have a little one that goes to sleep early- however, the others were very respectful and it was pin-drop quiet here by 11 when they post quiet time. This was also an all-around quiet area, the other renters all seemed to be there to enjoy the beauty of the area - not a party vibe at all!||||This cabin, 3, was truly nicer than any hotel room we’ve stayed at and we were in the woods! ||||We can’t say enough about what a great weekend we had, how great this cabin was, and how great these people are! Everyone we talked to and met, including other renters were so friendly. Highly, highly, highly recommend Fair Winds! Can’t wait to...
Read moreWe stayed at the Black Forest Lodge over Memorial Day weekend (2017). The cabin was spacious, but that's about it. It was very rundown and beat up -- definitely not worth the $275 per night we were charged. To make matters worse, the cabin was not cleaned prior to our arrival; or, if it was, the owners have a different sense of "clean." But I generally think most would agree that quarter-sized dead bugs (which we felt obliged to sweep up in order to make our stay slightly more comfortable) should be removed as part of any exercise in cleaning.||||In addition, for one of the evenings we were there, we got some rain. Not a big deal, of course. But had we not been outside when the rain started, we still would have known because of the holes in the roof. To their credit though, the owners do provide ample pots and pans for such occasions and they came in handy that evening. ||||There were other issues, such as the upside down deer head on the wall with the joint sticking out of its mouth, and the fact that the cabin is right on Route 36 (deceptively close to the road), but that might be considered piling on. Needless to say, we won't be staying there again. ||||Finally, while I will credit the employee with whom I spoke for her apologetic response when I called to calmly make my complaints known, I was disappointed that the owners did not take it upon themselves to...
Read moreThere should be a zero star. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO STAY THERE. I made reservations for 10 days to stay at cabin 6. The 10 day stay turned out to be over night stay. Upon arrival, there was a sticker on the refrigerator saying don't touch control and the refrigerator takes up 72 hrs to get to the coldest level. We packed so much food since it was our vacation for a week. We had no choice than putting our food in the refrigerator. Sat morning the food got warmer in the refrigerator. We couldn't put our other food on the kitchen counter since mouse was getting into it. There was mouse droppings on the oven mitts on the counter and in the dresser drawers in the bedrooms. We saw a mouse running inside the cabin. The bedroom has a moldy smell and both of out feet was totally black. In the afternoon, I called the manager in regards to the issues. He told me the reason why our feet was black is because we have dogs. I told him my feet at my own home does not get black. After that, he gave us a hour to pack our stuff to leave. A worse...
