Five star painting does an excellent job selling their services. They sold us on quality products, good communication, and care for our home. They provided one of the three. While the quality of paint they provided was excellent (Sherman Williams), and exactly what we would normally use, their communication and care for our home stunk. An initial issue was that an individual came to power-wash the whole house as well as our attached deck. House looks much cleaner, thank you! However the deck was not part of the contract and in power washing the deck he ended up stripping a good chunk of the stain off. When I called the supervisor about this they offered me a "nice price on repainting the deck." Thanks, but that's not in our budget. Now our deck is ruined and claim no responsibility for it. Then, their team of painters showed up with no notice. Good thing I was home. Unfortunately, I was not able to communicate well with them as the English understanding was quite poor for the Hispanic team. This turned out to be a problem because our contract excluded painting certain parts of our home, which they painted anyway. When I called their supervisor about it he offered a discount to paint the remainder. Okay, cool. It looks great but now we're out $500 bucks. Next, I noted that they painted all the cable wires and outside AC hoses the color of the house. This is not what we wanted and they did not communicate that they were going to do that--we paid to paint the house, not it's attachments. When asked about this, the contractor stated "we assumed that's what you wanted because we do that for everyone." Again, (lack of) communication issues because that is NOT what we wanted. The quality of painting left something to be desired. They left paint on the front door glass, leaving some house areas unpainted, and having overspray on our chimney and our deck doors. When I walked their supervisor around the house to show them areas that they had missed, he nodded his head but ended up missing most of them anyways. Then, when they stained our front door, we had to leave our front door open all evening on the hottest day of the year while the air conditioning was running for the stain to set (we were not allowed to shut the door). My wife has a lung issue. When the contract was signed the salesman specifically stated that the team would set up fans around the house--that way odors from the paint and the stain would not affect her. Unfortunately, their team did not do this and my wife ended up coughing, had difficulty breathing, and suffering the entire evening dealing with the odor from the door stain. When I contacted the supervisor and the owner about the issues regarding missing painted areas and overspray, it took their team two and a half weeks to respond to my concerns and then another week to come and fix the issues. Suddenly, the supervisor was concerned about my issues. They did paint missing areas, scrape the paint off the front door glass, and clean their overspray.
Overall, very poor (or no) communication, poor care for our home, and lack of concern for my wife's health. I gave them one star because the work was actually completed and the house does look nice. Big promises, no delivery. Our family will never use Five star painting in the future nor will we recommend them to any of our friends, neighbors, or family.
Upon posting this review, I recieved a call from their owner Matt who asked me to take my review down. I responded that I waited several months to write the review in order to be clear headed and rational. I also noted that at the time, he acknowledged their communication issues and their painting failures-- while Matt did not deny the facts, he did go on to say that my review could "damage our business."
