Hugo's Lake of the Woods Foods — Local services in Baudette

In August 2025, we visited the Hugo's Lake of the Woods Foods in Baudette, Minnesota. This is a grocery store in Northern Minnesota, near the Canadian border, and on the Southern edge of the Lake of the Woods. The walls of this grocery store have murals of the surrounding outdoor Minnesota scenery. Just outside of the store, there is a 40 foot Walleye fish statue, a Circle K gas station, and an outfitter with a totem pole and colorful wall mural. We just visited the grocery store for the first time since the remodel, and we were so pleased with how great the layout and selection is. We had an amazing young gentleman help us find something we were looking for (bacon.) He even asked what kind we wanted and was going to help us pick it out ❤ He was so happy to help and was the best part of our shopping experience. It's the only grocery store in town. Unfortunately more often than not the customer service is indifferent at best and rarely do they say thank you when I spend money on their overpriced groceries. Their selection is pretty good and I appreciate their makeup and toiletries section especially since the drugstore closed down. They should not offer their free food samples next to the bathrooms.
