Terrible experience overall, listen to what the other reviews say about BMI only being out to protect themselves! Have had insurance with them for about 2 years since I bought my home, since then the few encounters I've had with BMI have all been terrible, BMI will send their lackeys to find things wrong with your home so you can be the one shelling out cash, we recieved a random 'routine' inspection followed with a letter stating that our trees were too close to our house and they had to be cut or they would drop our roof coverage, we did this promptly and to the exact directions stated by BMI paying almost 600-700$ to have the work done. Recently, through all these storms and hail we had a guy come take a look at our roof and he did find a good bit of damage on the roof and even let me climb up there with him so he could show me the damage directly, all the surrounding houses around me got new roofs as the storms were pretty gnarly, I knew it was gonna be rocky when even trying to call BMI they could not find my policy and bounced me around Auto Owners Insurance, FCNB and BMI so theres are some names to keep an eye to avoid aswell! Tried to submit a claim with BMI and did the normal routine of scheduling for the adjustor to come out and take a look, similar to another review left about adjusters being shady about how and when they show up. I wanted my contractor to be there with the adjustor as I am no expert when it comes to roofs so I scheduled this with both of them to be present at the same time, the time comes and my contractor does not show up. This obviously would peeve anyone so I called him to find out what was going on, and the contractor states that BMI contacted him that I changed the appointment date?? The adjuster that came to our house was named Monte, and the experience really left a sour taste in my mouth, Monte did not want me to go onto the roof with him to show what the contractor showed me and spent maybe 15 minutes up there poking around and taking pictures of things OTHER than the roof. Afterwards he comes down and tells me the roof is perfectly fine and that it was in really good shape and that they would be denying the claim. And he really just gave this vibe that he was blowing smoke and a talking down feeling about even suggesting the roof had damage.
I explained to Monte, that obviously I am getting some very differing opinions on the roof and that I really would like to have my contractors opinion involved with this as he took pictures and chalked all the damage locations during his visit and he could definately could provide those photos to BMI, he told me "Well I dont work for that guy, I work for BMI" And this really just rubbed my the wrong way to a company I pay over 2,000/Yr to do nothing apparently. Where does he thinks BMI gets their money for his paycheck? I also relayed this information to my contractor who states he has tried to contact BMI multiple times and they will not return his calls (also similar to what another reviewer has said)
Several days after he leaves, I get ANOTHER letter in the mail stating that BMI has recently completed an inspection on my property and found that lo' and behold, my trees are too close to my house and need to be cut back, the roof on my home leaks and needs to be repaired (The irony of it honestly made me chuckle, funny how monte never even went into the attic to see something like that) and that the pool on the property was a liability and needed to be filled or blocked off. Ignoring the fact that it was not a scheduled inspection and Monte was supposed to be there to do a roof claim, that pool's been unchanged since the day we bought the house, its interesting that now its a problem as soon as you start to stick your fingers in their pocket that youve been dumping money into for the past 2 years.
I will not be doing anymore business with BMI and they will not be getting anymore money from me. I've already switched insurance providers to AAA and my premium is 50% of what BMI was charging me for MORE coverage!!!!
Stay...
Read moreWhen I had my carpet put in, they stole a bunch of my deceased father's items out of the garage and my high-end purses, so I opened a claim. After I filed a police report of course. I have never had such a traumatic horrific experience going over this again and again and again and again with the insurance companies adjuster. What I asked for was the price for the purses being "used". Not the price for purses "new". We argued over the price of the cameras that belonged to my dad and the tripod over and over and over. We argued over the price of my mother's dishes. That had 24 carat gold around the edges. The insurance agent NEVER came out to take a look at anything ever. I HAD THE BEST PICTURES I COULD!! HE COULD HAVE COME TO SEE IT ALL IN PERSON FROM WHAT WAS LEFT!!!The amount of money I was to receive was pathetic $623. Then I had to repurchase items and send in receipts at the end of the month. AND HOPE FOR UP TO 1/2 THE PRICE REFUNDED, WHAT????Not only that during this whole event, I had to track down the police department officer, who went on maternity leave, sent him the paperwork from 3 different computers and then from ups store and the detective with no phone # or e mail and make sure that they had ALL the pages that I listed that the insurance co has these items on. ( YES I HAD TO) Because they couldn't keep them informed...this whole thing has been absolutely ridiculous. I did all the paperwork. I did all the tracking down. I did all the legwork. I am disgusted at how this company made me do all the work. And then made me feel like I'm trying to get something from them, like I had tried to get something for nothing when they never came out to take a look at what was here, what little I have left of my family's memories. What little that they didn't steal? I am disgusted, just disgusted. If you want to be treated with respect and you want a company to really come out and do the job, right, you need to hire anybody, but BMI do not ever think twice about using this company. You will go through hell if you try to open a claim with this company!!! The whole process is extremely exhausting and you re live the trama over and over until you say you can't take it anymore and then they...

I strongly caution anyone considering Billings Insurance, now rebranded as SurSafe â a name change that may have more to do with distancing themselves from poor customer reviews than any meaningful improvement in service. While their policies may fall within legal bounds, their approach to customer care and claims handling borders on predatory.
We recently experienced $29,000 in water damage from a slow leak that was not visible or detectable until significant harm was done. Despite clear documentation and repeated communication â including multiple follow-ups through my broker â Billings/Sursafe covered absolutely nothing. Their reason? The damage resulted from a âslow leak/mold,â which they claim excludes them from paying a dime. I wasnât even asking for reconstruction costs â only the $7,200 it cost us for urgent remediation services. Even that was flatly denied.
It took over a month and multiple requests just to receive a denial letter. I was told several times someone would be in touch, yet had to chase them down repeatedly for a response. Their strategy seems clear: delay, deflect, deny â and hope the customer gives up.
I will be filing a formal complaint with the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, and I strongly encourage others who have faced similar mistreatment to do the same.
Even if switching insurance companies means a higher premium, it may save you far more in the long run. Billings/SurSafe may protect their bottom line legally, but they fail to protect their customers ethically â and that should give any policyholder...
