Hong Kong Star — Restaurant in Billings

A hidden gem for sure. You don't want to judge a book by its cover when passing through this small town. As the restaurant might not look like much, its definitely what's inside that counts. Friendly service, clean dining and kitchen (you can see straight through) with the best cashew chicken around. Willing to throw hands over it! Their cashew sauce is unbeatable. I've ate there a few times now as I'm hooked. Got take out last week, forgot to ask for my sauce on the side. (always do) so that it doesn't spill in the bag on my drive home. I got home and worried while opening the bag but much to my surprise not a drop had spilled out. Their's isn't runny!! It is the perfect consistency and so delicious. They are worth the drive for sure and if you need more convincing the local antique stores surrounding the town are terrific. I always make a full day when visiting. Small town hidden gems...

Ordered to go beef broccoli, cashew chicken, rangoons, egg drop soup. My husband mistakenly asked for them to add a little to egg drop soup instead of beef broccoli. Interestingly enough the soup was delicious. But that's all that was delicious. Beef broccoli had NO sauce. It looked grey. Grey like steamed meat in it's natural juices. There was broccoli and carrots mixed in but again no sauce. Tasteless. Thank goodness I had a couple packets of plum sauce and soy sauce. Rice was dry and bland. Bamboo shoots in dish were bitter and tasted like a can. Cashew ck sauce was very thin. Chicken tasted like stale fried meat. I have eaten American Chinese food all over this beautiful country and this was unfortunately one of the more memorable for not being so good. BUT ... If you all pass through Crane, Mo, stop at Chinese Chef Inn. All I can say...

I got my order to go, and waited inside as it was being cooked. I got the general chicken my wife ordered the cashew chicken. Even after driving 10 mins home, it was very good. The staff was super friendly. Unfortunately, they were out of egg rolls but gave me some extra Crab Rangoon, they were excellent. I am not typically a Chinese food eater, but I think I would eat here again. It was good, it was faster than most and the staff from the lady that took my order to the staff in the back were super nice and friendly. Next time I am gonna eat in and experience that. It can only be better right? Also, let me add this was 30 min to closing. So to get that good of service right before closing? I think that's 5...
