I love street fairs/festivals/vendors. So for this to be my first time visiting the Saturday Farmers Market here at Peppers Place is very ironic.
I've been to Peppers several times before for different events/reasons, but today decided to come for a book signing. Though I missed the signing, I did get to walk around in the blazing heat for awhile, admiring all of the great local vendors and farms that the state has to offer. I bought a couple of really unique handmade wooden items, a beautiful bouquet for my classroom with a teacher motif vase, and of course, some good eats to take home with me. I mean, what's a street market without food, right? Lol! Live entertainment in several areas was a nice touch.
I will definitely return more often. However, it will be either earlier in the morning or during the Spring/Fall. Today it was just too hot to really enjoy myself. Though there was a booth set up that gave away free fans (Thanks WBHM 90.3), the summer sun was out for revenge for being hid by rain clouds the last few days.
Check out Peppers Place Farmers Market. Have a budget in mind because there's so many unique items to choose from that it could be really easy to go overboard. But it's ok. You're supporting local talent and local farmers. So everyone comes...
Read moreWe love the Saturday Market at Pepper Place! So many Family Farms are there selling their organically grown fruits, veggies, even meats! We love all the vendors there, there is Artwork, Homemade Soaps, a Flower seller, Homemade Woodwork, Ironwork, Birmingham T-shirts, basically anything and everything local. There is live music, cooking demonstrations, and a water misting tent for when the kids get over heated (because this is Birmingham, Alabama, after all, so the Heat is pretty miserable!) The Market at Pepper Place also does a great job of providing eye candy, and actual candy, all of which distracts you from how hot it is! The Market also has a booth where, anyone who has Food Stamps, can purchase coins to spend at the booths (foods only, of course.) The cool thing about that is if a person spends $5 in Food Stamp Benefits, they will get $10 worth of coins! So the Market, early on Saturday mornings, is a great way to gain wholesome Healthy foods for your family. Get there early! Youâll have...
Read moreThe market part has gotten better over the years. It gets pretty crowded and due to the large buildings there is not good airflow so it can be very hot. The place is seriously lacking for sit down restaurants with air conditioning. I miss the little Mexican place that used to be there. Also, my friend was tripped by someoneâs dog who caught his legs with his leash. Animals that are not well behaved should not be allowed but that was a dog that belonged to an irresponsible owner. It is WAY too crowded for dogs on a typical summer Saturday yet people continue to bring them out and around all the food. Itâs impossible to walk without getting noses all over your legs or having a dog stick itâs head in a baby stroller. Just hold your kids tight and watch your surroundings. Lots of...
