The Canvas Event Center — Local services in Birmingham

I would not recommend this venue to anyone. The person who is supposed to be in charge is James, he goes by Butch. Completely unprofessional. He went behind the bar long before the wedding started and opened a bottle of Crown Royal, he drank half of the bottle. He was extremely inappropriate with several women and would not stay out of their faces. That is called sexual harassment. He would not leave me alone. My mother told him to stop messing with me and he threatened to put me out of the venue. Not only did he constantly drink our liquor, but he invited several of his friends and/or family members to the reception and some of them were literally just standing at the bar drinking. They have a RV parked in the back and the ones who were not standing there drinking were coming in asking the bartender for 6 beers at a time and taking it back to the RV. It was extremely hot because he kept turning the air off saying we were running his bills up. We paid thousands of dollars to rent this space, our guests should have been comfortable. Instead, they were fanning because he was turning the air on and off the entire time. When we rented the facility it was known that we would have over 200 people, in the summer, in Alabama, where it gets hot. It was known that the air was going to be on. When we paid for the building we paid our portion of the bills, enough to keep the air running. It was already hot and he had to turn one side of the fans off because it looked as if it was about to fall from the ceiling. He made our photographer feel unwelcome. He came and was throwing her equipment around saying it needed to be moved off his couch. WE rented furniture for our event. Photographers spend real money on there equipment and he was about to break it. The photographer's assistant wanted to leave because he was so rude and disrespectful. The photographer only decided to stay because of their relationship with my sister. Speaking of breaking things, we rented 2 throne chairs which were $500 to rent. Our decorator was setting up the night before the wedding and he grabbed one of her chairs and he dropped it. He broke the leg on the chair and we were not able to use the chairs. At one point he came out during the reception with a woman's grey wig on and he went from table to table in it. I guess he thought it would be funny, but it was a wedding reception not the circus. We did not need a clown. He just wants attention and someone else's wedding is not the time for him to try to make everything be about him. In the end, it was not a great experience. My sister spent a lot of time crying on her wedding day due to Butch and his lies. Do not have your wedding there. If I could post without giving any stars I would. It was well...

It’s been almost a week and I am truly still speechless! Mr. JL, Mrs. Marie and the Canvas Staff, I can’t thank you enough for everything that you did to make our wedding day the BEST DAY EVER! From the first time I spoke with JL over the phone, I KNEW this would be an adventure. And he and his lovely wife did not disappoint. I am still in awe of how amazing everything came out to be from The planning process, the consultations, the food tasting, the actual food and decor!!! The Daniels surpassed all of my expectations! The decor was breathtaking! I only gave Mrs. Marie colors, theme, and a request for a very long estate table. So worked her magic and gave me more than I could’ve ever dreamed or imagined. Same for JL and his Executive Chef! I only asked (begged lol) for a southern meal with turkey wings and shrimp and grits! Boy did they deliver!!!!! The guests are still raving about the food!

I gave a star to do the review but I took my star back once it came on! The venue and decor was very elegant, the DJ was nice but that dayumm owner was a hot mess!! Very zesty rude ahhz dude!!! He acted wayyy too entitled for ppl to have paid money TO HIM for a good time!! The food was garbage that he kept yelling he cooked and he closed the food area down early, and was just down right nasty!! I never even heard of his spot before then but I'll Never attend an event there again! I tried to be cordial but whewwww.. he needed the police there for that but NOT for the US FOR HIM!!!
