My son plays travel hockey which means we end up visiting a lot of rinks. I have never written a poor review for a rink, and I donât take doing so lightly. We are a hockey family and we always love seeing new rinks and being in new places. A few positives at Boca Ice: itâs the coldest rink Iâve been to yet and I love an ice cold rink. And the folks at concessions were kind enough to give me some ice for my cooler at no charge.
Thatâs where the praise ends, sadly.
I will attach a video of an area where I was sitting briefly with my phone, so I could let it charge. There werenât any other outlets and it was behind a table that wasnât being used and there was a decoration there but other than that, nothing. I recorded the area to show how âbusyâ it was (literally not one person walks by the entire video). I had asked the security person if it was okay if I sat there briefly and he nodded in approval. So I plugged my phone in and sat for a moment just to let it charge a bit. I sat there for probably 15 minutes when I was approached by a woman and man, and the woman said the weirdest thing to me: something along the lines of âoh yeah no, youâre blocking this area for my security guardâŚâ but the guard had said it was just fine to be there because I was out of the way. I explained that he okayed it and then she pointed to the man and said he was the manager and âthis is a very busy area.â Just FYI: the entire video, not one person comes into the frame.
I guess this is typical Boca Raton: Iâm not wealthy and they likely didnât want to have it look like some vagabond homeless person was using their plug to charge their phone. On the other coast, we are definitely welcoming to our travel hockey teams regardless of where they come from, and we certainly donât gatekeep our outlets. Iâve never once, in any other rink weâve ever been to, been asked to move to a different area to charge my phone. Itâs evident they thought I was a bad look for their wealthy, East Coast of Florida rink. Iâm not sure if they employ the officials in our earlier game today but the officiating was shamefully one-sided and they couldâve allowed our players to sustain significant injuries due to their blatant favoritism. Again, I have no idea if the refs are employed by the rink but they were horrific.
Bottom line: make sure your phone is charged and make sure you look wealthy or theyâll tell you the one place you can charge your phone is in a bathroom.
ETA: I canât attach the video but will happily provide it should...

Boca Ice has potential, but management needs to address safety, clear communication, lack of experienced staff and customer service issues to create a more positive and enjoyable experience for customers.
During public skate times, safety is a significant issue. Skaters, including children, often move in unsafe waysâskating the wrong direction, cutting across the rink, or moving at excessive speeds. Unfortunately, staff do little to address these behaviors, which creates a stressful and potentially hazardous environment, particularly for families with young children and even experienced skaters. It would be helpful if staff received more training on rink safety and actively managed skating etiquette to ensure everyone feels secure and supported.
Another concern is the lack of clear communication regarding public skate schedules. There is no signage indicating session end times, and staff did not inform us when purchasing tickets, even though we arrived within 30 minutes of the session ending. Unfortunately, we were still charged full price, which felt unfair. Improving transparency with clear signage and proactive communication from staff would go a long way in building trust and customer satisfaction.
Lastly, when I tried to discuss these concerns with staff, the response was defensive and dismissive. A more customer-focused approach, including training on conflict resolution and customer care, would make a...
