I had a disappointing experience right before boarding my flight two weekends ago. While checking out, the cashier made some small talk and asked if I needed a bag. He gestured toward two large bags placed a few feet above the counter, which I assumed were samples. As is customary, I waited for him to grab a bag from under the counter and help me pack the items. After an awkward pause, I politely asked if I could use one of the bags above the counter. His response was surprisingly snarky and condescending: “That’s what bags are for, aren’t they?”
It was an unnecessarily rude exchange that left a poor impression. If someone cannot be kind or helpful in a customer-facing role, perhaps this line of work isn’t the right fit.
