Always jam packed busy. Prices have gone up a pretty decent amount in the last three years. One woman in the kitchen with a red face that ALWAYS messed my order up one way or another when I'd go for lunch without fail. Every time. If I went on a breakfast break and order a breakfast sandwich, forget about it. Expect a sloppy mess, or something you didn't order.
Edit: So I made my way back down to the Sagamore market basket again, wish I hadn't. I am NOT a picky eater, nor a picky cook. With that being said I bought a pound of ground beef and I'm on the verge of calling the board of health or whomever it may concern. I opened the package of ground beef, which looked absolutely perfect while still in the package. Unfortunately, once I opened the package I was met with a bit of a strange smell, no biggie I thought. I then began breaking it up to put into the pan for a batch of delicious tacos. The second I broke up the meat I was mortified to find that the inside was andark brown color. (Mind you the exterior was a bright and vibrant red color) I have heard from acquaintances that have worked there that they repack meat after soaking in blood to bring it back to the reddish color, but I didn't believe it.. now I do) I can't believe they can get away with that. My next concern is the short woman in the kitchen, I have no idea how she is still working with peoples' food, as I have NEVER had a good sandwich made by her. I ordered a custom breakfast sandwich (bacon, sausage, egg, cheese, onions, peppers) and returned after I grabbed a few things (beef, lettuce, tomato, tortillas, etc) and when I returned she hadn't started it yet (15 min later) so I paid for my groceries and came back. Once I finally opened my sandwich I was disgusted. It was a sloppy mess, dripping out of the foil wrapper. There were onions and peppers ON TOP OF the sandwich, almost like a big F YOU for ordering something that required an extra 20 seconds of effort. I am always pleasant to her, hoping that maybe she has changed her ways. If this ever happens again I'll have to write a letter to HQ because this is getting out of hand. If Demoulas knew the Sagamore MB was heading this far down hill he would not be happy. Those are my only complaints though, and the value is still pretty good even though prices...
Read moreLove Market Basket! First of all, the employees are the nicest. Then, let's talk about the hot bar which is the first stop we make in our journey, especially if it's dinner time and we're tired of traffic and hungry, which is usually the case for us on our way back home after appointments off Cape. The fried shrimp shumai and spicy buffalo wings we got last night were really good. We warmed them when we got home but there is a small place to sit and eat if you're starving. So many yummy looking store prepared foods to choose from it's always a challenge. The bakery is a dangerous counter for me to even walk past! Treated ourselves to a lobster tail pastry and was so glad we did. The ricotta filling was not too sweet and the phyllo pastry was perfectly crispy. It's huge so plan to share...or not. Produce is nicely displayed and kept well stocked with fresh goods. The meat counter offers lots of variety. We are usually very happy with their meats which isn't the case with most other supermarkets in our area. There are always butchers readily available to assist and answer questions. We have not purchased fresh seafood but seems to always be busy with customers. The cheese selections are numerous. I could spend an hour deciding. The international aisle offers quite a lot more variety of ingredients, spices and sauce choices than the average grocery. We find the prices, even at the regular price, are always better than in the supermarkets near us. My only regret is that, sadly, I have to drive an hour from my home to shop at Market Basket so I only rarely get to go. Oh, how I wish there was one on the lower Cape.
1/28/23 - Still my favorite...
Read moreThis Market Basket used to be extremely well run but has gone downhill over the past few years. My main gripe is with the stocking of shelves. They have a tendency to not want to show that anything is out of stock but what they end up doing is pushing items to the front of the shelves in places where those items do not match up with the SKU tag on the shelf. In turn, when inventory is taken, the items that should be getting ordered never are.
Case in point: In the International/Ethnic Aisle, there should be a row for little jars of sliced lemongrass by Roland AND a row for baby corn by Roland (also in a small glass jar). Every time we go here, there are never any jars of baby corn. Instead, the stockers place the jars of lemongrass in two rows —falsely making one think that they have baby corn in stock—when in reality, it’s just a bunch of jars of lemongrass.
Lastly, the paper bags are HORRENDOUS! They always break before even getting to the car. They overpack them. Condensation quickly makes their thin structure compromised, and lo and behold, by the time one goes to lift the bag out of the cart into the car, it’s groceries galore all over the parking lot. I get so aggravated with the bags breaking that I always swear that I’ll never return. I do eventually find myself occasionally coming back but not all...
