Powers Goldsmith Shop Ltd — Local services in Brookfield

As a second generation customer of Powers it's difficult to write this review but after my recent experience I feel obligated to forewarn other customers. This shop is not what it used to be. Powers was established by a prior generation of true craftsmen and was a great jewelry shop. The current generation of ownership relies on that reputation but does not live up to the legacy. The quality of the custom work has continually grown worse with each piece they've worked on for me and the customer service is poor.

My most recent experience left me feeling completely taken advantage of. I had dropped off my wife's wedding ring to be dipped in rhodium to refresh the white gold. This typically costs around $50. I was taken aback when I went to pick up the ring and was told the bill was $500, but not to worry the owner would cut me a deal of $250. Supposedly Doug, the owner, had gone ahead and did some work on the ring without consulting me. This is not standard business practice and frankly without seeing the issues prior to the supposed repairs I'm skeptical what was even done. When I brought this up to the owner he unprofessionally gave excuses after excuse about his personal problems and insisted on charging the $250. I was also at the store to pick up a ring for my wife. We had bought two separate bands with the birth stones of our children from Powers and my wife wanted them soldered into one piece. This was my second time back for the ring as the first time they had been soldered off center. The second time around they were still off-center and the soldering was crude and had been done hastily.

I stumbled upon Powers after stopping at a jeweler across the street, and boy am I glad I did! I worked with Doug, who is absolutely the man, but everyone else I've come into contact with has been extremely friendly and offered A1 service.

The way that they do business is unheard of and truly remarkable... especially these days!

I had put deposits down on three engagement rings prior to entering their store and knew as soon as I left that there would be no need for them.
