I have to say I don't often happen upon a place I have to rate so low but this was a terrible experience. The atmosphere is what you would expect to find at a Greek family restaurant. The wheels on the chairs barely moved, and combined with the texture of the [carpet?] it was nearly impossible to move the chairs in the actual direction you wanted them to go.
Our server was a woman in maybe her early to mid 50s, who acted like being there was the worst thing that could possibly be happening to her. She kept touching my friend every time she came to the table. She voiced her need to go home on several occasions. It was painful to endure. She never brought out my friend's soup so she switched to fries since I had to send my plate back anyway for being served the completely wrong dish. When the correct food was served I requested mustard - I like to dip my fries in mustard. I was given a brand new bottle with the seal still on it so I had to pick at it to get it off. Turned out to be a good thing because as I was twisting the cap back on I noticed it had expired 10 months ago. When I told her that, she actually ASKED if I wanted a different one. Really? I said yes, if it's not expired. She came back and said she had to throw all of it away because every bottle was expired, and then asked if I wanted spicy brown. Sure. She handed me the bottle and started to turn away. She saw that I was looking for the date and cheekily said, "I do good this time?" I said no, this expired 5 months ago. THAT was their last bottle of mustard. Her excuse was an apology that the owner just bought it in November (the month the mustard expired) and "didn't know he needed to replace it." WHAT?!?!
When I finally got to take a bite of my wrap, I found that my chicken, cheddar, bacon wrap...had no cheddar. There are only three ingredients in the NAME of the item, and it's missing one. At this point I was just done. I took it home to add cheese later because I was not dealing with this any longer. I ended up throwing it away because I realized that if they don't rotate items that actually have a clearly printed expiration date on them, what ELSE are they not rotating?
When I went to pay and was asked if I enjoyed my lunch, I said not particularly and relayed the full litany of what all occurred. I was offered soup to take home. No comp. No discount. Just, "I'm sorry, I can give you some soup to take home." The soup that didn't appeal to me to have as my side selection was offered to me to take home.
I was so put off by this place I didn't even...

I recently visited Capitol Café and while the experience started off well, it quickly soured because of one major issue: the manager and owner.
Let me start by saying the food was good, and our server was absolutely fantastic. They were attentive, friendly, and quick. We felt taken care of, and honestly, they saved the day. Unfortunately, our experience took a turn when we had an interaction with the manager and owner.
When we went to pay, we encountered a problem. The debit/credit card machine stopped working. We tried several times, but the manager stated he had been having the issue all morning. This was at about 11:00am. There was no sign saying it was cash only and the manager was dismissive and beyond rude. Instead of comping the meal or even providing a large discount so that we could pay with the cash we had on hand, the manager demanded we go to an ATM or come back with cash before 3:00pm to pay our bill. We do not live just down the road. There was no apology from him either. I told him to speak to the owner because this was not our fault, and I did not want to drive to an ATM and pay a fee to take out money since it was THEIR machine that wasn’t working for any customer. He told me to give him the name of any restaurant that would give a large discount and/or comp for this type of issue because “none will” according to him. I couldn’t believe how unprofessional and cold the manager and owner were. I was appalled! I’m not the type of person to leave my bill unpaid, so I drove to an ATM. I was beyond livid at how I was treated by both of them for a problem that was the restaurant’s fault.
It’s a shame, really, because the food and our server were both great. I used to be a regular customer as well. The manager and owner really left a bad taste in my mouth, and I will not be returning as long as they’re running the show.
To the server: you were amazing, and you definitely deserve better than that! You’ve been there for many years and I hope...
Read moreCapitol Cafe what happened? We have been coming here for years. Food was always good, service friendly. Staff got to know my kids... Came tonight on a Thursday at 6pm. Server was friendly and was training a second server. My husband ordered a sandwich, kids ordered a hamburger and pancakes, I ordered a salad. We waited over 45 minutes for our food after it was ordered. My husband said his sandwich was dry. My kids didn't complain about the food. I started to eat my salad and found a big, dead fly in it. My husband told the woman working at the register. She came over and rudely asked what was in my salad, however, she did seem embarrassed and apologized when I showed her the dead fly. She asked if I wanted anything else and offered to take the salad off the bill when I said i did not want anything else. I also had to swat a few flies away from the table while I was eating. The restaurant just didn't seem to have the same friendly vibe we are used to, plus the food wasn't very good, and there was a dead bug in mine. Things didn't seem as clean, the decor on the walls really needs to be scrubbed down as there were food stains on the decorations and the blinds are literally filthy. The kids booster seats are in need of a good wipe down, too. Hate to give a bad review to a place we have been frequenting for years, but it is obvious that there is new staff and things are getting...
