I just came from the Penn Highlands Brookville ER. I’ve never had a more unprofessional experience anywhere in my life. The reason I was there seeking medical treatment was I did something to my lower back, I think it may be a disc slipped out of place, I don’t know because I did not receive any treatment and am still in a great deal of pain. When I arrived, I explained to the girl at the desk my situation and I also asked her if there was much of a wait because I couldn’t sit due to the amount of pain I am in. She told me that she couldn’t tell me if there was a wait, I’m not sure why. I wasn’t asking for any confidential information I just wanted to know if it would be 5 minutes or 6 hours, not specific’s, just a very rough idea due to the fact I was unable to sit due to the pain I was in. Actually, I would think if I was unable to sit due to pain they should have to find a way to accommodate my condition. Anyhow my conversation with the girl at the desk went back and forth for maybe 3-4 minutes, no voices were raised, no one on either side was being rude. I was just trying to get an idea whether I would be able to tolerate waiting due to the pain I am in or whether I should consider the drive to Dubois, which I wasn’t sure I could tolerate. At this point the physician on duty, Michael I believe, stuck his head out and very rudely told me to quit wasting his staffs time and either have a seat or leave. I was in such shock the way this physician would treat someone clearly in pain and in need of treatment, I said we were leaving, I also told him F.U. (very inappropriate on my part and I apologize for that), then as I was walking through the door to leave he hollers that if I didn’t leave he would call security. I was halfway out the door and had to stop and tell him obviously I was leaving, and ask what his name was, which he refused to give me. I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the treatment I received at Penn Highlands Brookville, and by this physician in particular. I don’t know anything about patients’ rights, but I sure feel like mine have...
Read moreI AM A 73 YEAR OLD GREAT GRAND MOTHER AND HAVE BEEN GOING TO OUR LOCAL HOSPITAL SINCE 1971, LONG BEFORE PENN HIGHLANDS TOOK OVER. HONESTLY I HAVE EXPERIENCED NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO COMPANIES. IF I WERE TO SAY ANYTHING, I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE CARE AND TREATMENT MIGHT NOW EVEN BETTER. I HAVE MANY HEALTH ISSUES AND HAVE BEEN TO THE ER MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO WAIT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME. EVERY TIME I HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE ER I'VE BEEN TAKEN BACK IMMEDIATELY. I GET MY BLOOD WORK AND ALL MY TESTING, EXRAYS, ETC. DONE THERE. MY CARDIOLOGIST'S OFFICE IS THERE. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS FACILITY. I CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT WAIT TIMES.. I'VE NEVER WAITED MORE THAN 15 - 20 MINUTES FOR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS. . NOW , OF COURSE, THE WAIT TIMES IN THE ER MIGHT BE A LITTLE LONGER THAT'S BECAUSE THE SICKEST OF PATIENTS ARE TREATED FIRST WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE. STILL I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TAKEN BACK INTO THE EXAM ROOMS IMMEDIATELY. A NURSE COMES IN, EVALUATES ME AND A DOCTOR COMES IN AS SOON AS HE/SHE CAN. I MUST SAY THAT I'VE ALWAYS BEEN TREATED KINDLY, WITH RESPECT, AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE UTMOST CARE. AT MY AGE I'VE LEARNED THAT IF I AM RESPECTFUL TO OTHERS , SPEAK AND TREAT THEM KINDLY THEY WILL MIRROR THAT BACK TO ME. I HOPE OUR HOSPITAL REMAINS IN BROOKVILLE LONG...
Read moreWith the worst pain in my life, I was not content to be patient 36 at the 18-bed ER in DuBois. The triage nurse was apathetic and refused to call Brookville ER to check their availability (they cited "federal regulations" - Total BS). In the middle of a thunderstorm, my spouse drive me to Brookville ER, and before she could park the car, I was in an ER bed. A NP and Physician saw me immediately. Within the first hour, I was evaluated at bedside, scanned, given the results, and scheduled for a procedure the next morning. I was admitted to a hospital room by hour 3. By that hour, I probably would not have been seen in DuBois. I can't say enough about how well the doctors, nurses, and aides treated us in Brookville. They were always running, in part, because they have no unit secretary or transportation personnel. But, they always met our needs and from what I heard in the halls, all the others patients sounded satisfied. I was in the hospital several days, and cared for very well. Brookville Hospital may not have the fancy electronics and decoration of the hospital in DuBois, but they have heart, experience, and expertise which are much more important when you need help in...
