Crossing here was a pretty sad experience. There is a tent city on the Mexico side and there are many women and children who look like they have been there a long time. I'm not going to go on a political rant here other than to say there has to be a better way to handle this. I posted a short video of the Mexico side as I was heading back to the US.
If you're only going into the border town it's probably easiest to park on the US side and just walk across (you'll skip a LOT of traffic). I literally had time to cross and come back all before the 1 hour was up on the meter where I parked my car. On the way back into the US you'll see a long line of people to your right (I believe asylum seekers). You can skip that if you have a US passport. Some unpleasant border guard will likely just wave you through.
On the Mexico side it does "feel" a bit on the rough side. I don't think I'd want to be there at night. There are at least 5 pharmacies as soon as you cross which seemed odd to me. The one I went into was empty. I had an interesting conversation with the...
