Foodie paradise. La Cancilleria has all of the elements for a perfect dining experience. The menu is diverse and creative. Food preparation and presentation is spot on. Service is attentive, professional, and friendly. Prices are reasonable for this level of food experience.
We enjoyed fresh guacamole as an appetizer. For entrees we had a rib eye steak and grilled salmon with a caper sauce. All of the dishes exceeded our expectations.
The menu is written in Spanish and our waiter spoke limited English. Our ability to communicate in Spanish is very limited. While it would seem that this combination of language challenges would make for a difficult situation; it really did not. This is due to our great waiter. His willingness to patiently listen to us and to explain the menu to the best of his ability actually added to the great experience we had at La Cancilleria.
If you are in the Brownsville area and you enjoy top notch food experiences, head across the border to La Cancilleria. We took an Uber to the border and walked to the restaurant. It is a short walk from the International Bridge and we never felt unsafe. While in Matamoros, stop by the Contemporary Art Museum. This small art museum is well...
Read moreHorrible customer service. Servers were not attentive at all. Took around 20 minutes for someone to come and ask us what we would like to drink. After that it was another 20 minutes for them to bring our drinks. The server left and never came back to take our order. We had to call one of the servers after realizing that it had already been 45 minutes and no one had come yet to take our order. At first we thought that it was because they were busy being a Friday night. But we realized we had been waiting forever when the tables started clearing up and yet they seemed more concerned about setting up those empty tables instead of taking care of the people that hadn’t placed an order yet. It’s a beautiful place, but being in a border town it’s customer service definitely deserves better. Restaurants of this type in Tijuana and Cd. Juarez have way better. Definitely never coming back...
Read moreDisappointed with the customer service. It was my first time with my family, they sat us down immediately but none of the servers identified themselves as our waiter EVER. We had to ask someone to take our order and had to request a drink menu. Even after this, no one ever came back to check on us or to give us the status on our food. For spending close to $100 USD the food was not what I expected for a restaurant this caliber, it took about 45 minutes (if not more), we had to chase down waiters and staff and was completely ignored by one of them. Overall, a bad experience and will not be...
