We hired College Hunks to do a move for us last week after a positive experience with them in 2014; we were eager to use them again. Our move this time around was a 12 mile move of a 1700 square foot house. When I talked to Shane on the phone he quoted us for 3 hunks and approximately 6.25 hours of work. I was assured the move clock would not start ticking until they pulled into our driveway and would stop when our last box or item was moved.
We selected a start time of 8-9 AM. Our hunk called at 8:35 AM to state they would be about 45 minutes because they had to go to the dump, first. This was irritating because we had anticipated an earlier start to the day, but whatever. They finally arrived at 9:40 AM, and much to our dismay, only two hunks arrived. We were told they were trying to find an additional person to work, but the day started with only two. On top of that, the TV box we intended to rent to transport our TV was broken, so we could not utilize it. While the two movers were great, they could only do so much as a 2 person team. About 3 hours into the job of loading up the truck, they asked my husband to identify the "priority" items for the move because they had to get to another job! So much for that "last item" guarantee! While the two hunks handled everything with care and were personable, they did not in fact finish the job. They were continually interrupted by I assume their manager to get moving to the other job of the day and were dealing with making arrangements with that customer. Finally, with less than an hour of work left, a third hunk showed up to help unload the truck. While we were grateful for that, when the movers left our new house at 3:52 PM that day, there was still stuff left at our other house. We in fact had to rent a U-Haul the following day and spend more money to move the remaining items out of our old home!
I would not recomend College Hunks as they did not move our entire house like they were hired and paid to do. I attempted to call the office on Friday to discuss my complaints with the Operations Manager and was able to speak to the Administrative Assistant, but never received a return call. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Read moreWent to college hunks because of the great reviews and experience that we had previously at work. Let me start by saying that the guys who did the actual work were great. Busted their behinds for us. However, the scheduling, quoting, follow up, administrative, customer service and return calling lacked horribly.
We were closing down a home of a deceased family member. Due to circumstances, we had a short time line and had to be out of the home by 9/23. College hunks were very efficient with returning my call for an inquiry and scheduling the visit to give us a quote. The estimator arrived on time and we walked the entire home explaining that we needed 3 things to happen. 1. We need things designated as trash or disposable to be thrown in the dumpster that we provided. 2. Items to be donated and 3. For college hunks to haul away any remaining items. We were given a quote for Saturday 9/22 and were told we would have 4 people.
On 9/21, I received a call asking if they could get started earlier. I agreed. The labor team came and started on the basement. However, the dumpster quickly filled and they could not finish. No alternatives were offered and the workers left. Prior to leaving, the lead attempted to contact the office and I attempted as well, to discuss adjusting our needs and the quote. To this date, no one has returned my call.
On 9/22, I was contacted by College hunks for our regularly scheduled clean up. Only two guys came and they were not prepared for the job. They worked and they did well but the job could have used more help. Multiple attempts to contact the supervisor, the estimator, and the administrator failed. The call to customer service was a waste. All I kept hearing was that they were on other jobs or, in the case of customer service, well they are a franchise and I can't do any more.
As a result, I had to order a second dumpster and the 2 young men had to struggle to get the job done. Some of the neighbors had to help so we could finish by the end of the day. We could not have stressed how important the time line was. If this was job they were unable to do, I would have hired someone else. Instead, this added stress to an already stressful situation. Read morethey promised me movers at my disposal as long as I needed them, I have a bad back and am on disability. they assured me I had them as long as I needed and they set a 2 1/2 hour estimate, which they said was only an estimate and I had as long as I need. again, THEY SET THE TIME ESTIMATE, NOT ME, I WAS CLEAR ON WHAT I NEEDED AND EXPECTED. once the movers show up on the 28th, they act like everything is fine and then after 90 minutes all of a sudden they have time issues and have to leave in an hour. I was extremely upset, they said this is common and happens all the time, which means they know its a problem and refuse to fix it. they left after 3 hours and my 80 year old mom and I had to fully load 2 SUVs with everything they refused to take, we still aren't done unpacking, they have caused damage to my back that I specifically hired them to avoid, and then when I get them on the phone today she hangs up on me and says she isn't going to deal with me and will pass me on to some other manager. they also broke my desk. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE, my mom is 80 and we can only move a little bit of weight at a time and have to rest frequently, the employees were not sympathetic and neither was the lady I called today. horrible company, do not recommend ever. Then the other manager called me, Shane i think, and refused to offer ANY discount of ANY AMOUNT for everything we went through. not even a 10% off sympathy offer. Absolutely disgusting and they all need severe customer service training. corporate should shut this place down before they ruin their name further. I would recommend Craigslist or neighborhood kids before ever hiring these horrible people. learn from my mistake, use someone else. 💯
