One of the Best Pizzas I've had in a long time! My wife and I decided to drive over for our 6th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately we didn't end up eating there because they were so busy. I'm not the biggest fan of being around large groups especially when I'm trying food at a new place. We ending up getting our food to go and went and sat down by the river front. The Pizza: We got a margherita pizza and sausage pizza(add mushrooms). The margherita had great flavor and the sauce to cheese and basil ratio was on point. The sausage with added mushrooms could have been better. There were a lot of mushrooms, far more than I was expecting. Other than that it was good, their sauce game it excellent. Without a doubt the best part of the pizza was the crust. It was baked to perfection. The taste profile was original, yet it brought back memories of my childhood all at the same time. The finish to the crust reminded me of of soft matzah bread we ate as kids. The Starters: We got an order of cheese curds and a pretzel. The curds, what can I say about them... Excellent! I'm guessing they fire them in the oven and didn't just bake the because they had a great crunch to them and were still soft on the inside. Then paring them with their house ranch set it over the top. The ranch was well balanced. I was expecting more dill flavor to come out but it really didn't. Now the Pretzel... nothing special, it was good enough. I could see it being great for the people at the bar, but nothing really stood out about it. The sauce it was served with was alright. I didn't get any beer flavor from the cheese and the honey mustard was a little confusing. I did like the fact I got both the sauces with the pretzel so I could switch between sweet and savory. Overall I really enjoyed the food. The one thing I didn't really care for was walking in it was very loud. The amount of noise didn't feel like it was only because of the number of people in there, but more because of the acoustics of the building. With that being said what made me forget about how loud it was, was the staff. From the second we walked in we were well taken care of. Even though it seemed busy the hostess came right over to find us a table and when we decided to take our food to go she was still up beat and pleasant and sent us to the bar to place our order. The women at the bar stopped what she was doing and took our order right away. Never once did it feel like we were inconveniencing the staff and because of that I can say without a doubt we will definitely be coming back to eat there again.
Thanks HCS for...
Read moreNOT dog friendly, does state on the website but definitely not CLEARLY.
They do CLEARLY tell you the moment you arrive that dogs are not allowed anywhere on their property and treat you poorly for your mistake.
Please see the copied and pasted question and evasive “answer” below:
Do you allow pets on the patio or in the beer garden?
We love dogs, we are dog people. Todd has raised and trained working dogs, was a police dog handler for eight years, and supervised the RPD canine unit for three years after that but, only certified service animals are allowed on HCB property.
At no point in the answer does the word NO or NOT appear, the only time the word ALLOWED appears it is preceded by the word ARE.
To CLEARLY answer the question, the first line of the “answer” should say “No, unfortunately we do not allow dogs anywhere on our property .”
They have it backwards. When you accidentally arrive with your dog they should start with telling you about how much they love dogs, and how sorry they are that they can no longer allow dogs on their property. We apologize that you made the trip and hope you will return again without your furry friend to give us a try. Here is a coupon for $5 off your next visit. With very little effort they could take a potentially negative situation and turn it into a positive, gaining a customer for life.
Instead management would rather be right than hospitable or compassionate.
Their take is to basically say get out , do not return with or without your dog and tell all of your friends and family that they should not ever come here either.
Sad, it’s a beautiful location and has great potential but service is clearly not a priority based on our experience and the many other reviews on multiple platforms.
Todd’s responses so far to any reviews other than completely positive ones have been clearly condescending. Can’t wait to see his response to this review, or lack there of.
So goes the leader, so goes...
Read moreGreat spot next to the river. All the staff were attentive and welcoming. Perfect weather for the large patio overlooking the river. Food prices are very reasonable.
The cheese curds are amazing and the custom in house ranch sauce makes you want a bottle for at home. Wisconsin cheese curds with thin in house breading are the best I have had like other reviewers have stated.
The pizza is cooked in a brick fire oven and has that perfect crunch and smokey crust flavor. The pizza's are small personal sizes that fill your hunger.
The main reason to come here is not the food though, it is the beer. I don't think I have ever had beer that smells this good and that the flavor description in the menu matches so directly. Too many places have a flavor description that only an "expert" taster can detect. The beer's I have tried so far the average person should be able to identify the flavors in the description easily. It kind of shocks you when you try it. The brew masters here must be one of a kind.
Tried the Hazy Raider - Sortie: 2 this visit and was amazed by the aroma. The initial flavor made me think of a Corona, but opens up to tons of fruity notes and flowers. Never experienced a beer do this with the flavor so well. The Russian style beer (about 13% ABV) will knock you out if you like strong flavor like guinness. It is amazing and strong. I drink it in small whiskey glasses at home because it seems to deserve that level of respect. Was told by the owner they sometimes have a special barrel aged beer that is over 14% ABV. Can't wait to try it now.
This is a place worth driving out of your way to try. I know I am going to be a regular now even with the hour...
