Small town America means very limited options. My daughter and I decided to come here after the Byron boys track-and-field indoor invitational. A few issues. I asked three times for their drink options. I was met with the response of only what was in the soda machine. Flabbergasted, because I would expect there to be coffee or tea or something else besides soft drinks. Alas, no. Subsequently, my supposedly spicy Szechuan chicken was anything but spicy. If anything, it was bland. Even my daughter, who won't eat spicy food, took a bite and determined that it was no problem for her. On the plus side, the chicken sticks were fantastic! The crab rangoon were fried properly and not overly fried. They were stuffed with a healthy sum of crab and cream cheese. Finally, I had to go to the register myself, even though my daughter and I were there for table service dining, to take care of the bill. At the register, I was met by an approximately 8 year old boy who had earbuds in. I suspect this is a family-run business. I asked if he was "old enough" to take charge of my bill and use the machine. He said, "yes". He then said my card was declined. I knew that wasn't possible and didn't want to embarrass him any further and so his older sister, perhaps 13 or 14 years years-old, did the exact same thing as her younger brother and it was declined again. I then asked them if there was a chip reader that they ought to be using. Finally, I believe the mother must have typed in the numbers of my credit card to get the sale to go through. Later, I had a lot of gurgles in the tummy and other action I'd rather not post online! Over four hours later and the gurgling continues. If I ever return to Byron, I'll probably try another restaurant. Sorry, China King. I left a $10 tip for a $34 meal for two. I wish you good luck with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās hard to find a good Chinese food place. Going to any random Chinese place is risky for me and usually ends in disappointment. But China King really is the best place around here, much much better quality than the competition. They have surprisingly fair pricing considering the large portion sizes. I do personally prefer Chinese food with MSG in it, this place does not use it though. But despite that, the food is excellent. Fresh ingredients, good quality beef and they always give you a lot. A lot of places will skimp heavily on the amount of beef/meat used in dishes and use far too much vegetable/bamboo as filler.. not the case at China King.
Iāve tried their orange chicken, beef and broccoli, fried rice, sweet and sour pork. I recommend the beef or pork fried rice. Not a huge fan of the shrimp they use but thatās a very minor criticism. Their dinner combos are an excellent value. I feel like the vast majority of their offerings are really good and worth getting. I wonāt be going anywhere else for Chinese food besides China King. Nice folks who work there as well. Best in the Rockford area hands down. Order with confidence, trust me itās...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been to this particular restaurant a number of times and been extremely pleased with the quality of the food and the service. Tonight everything seemed off ,the waitress was almost non-existent, she took our order and gave us our dinner and then that was it. The Won Ton soup tasted like it was really watered down broth ,and clearly the meal had been microwaved because it was steaming hot in the very center but yet the outside part of the food was just warm. The waitress never check back with us to see how the food was, or if we wanted refill on our drink, or even if we wanted dessert. This is not usually how it is at the Byron China King.ordinarily I would give it 5 stars and rave about the food, as I said I've been there many times and that was the case,...
