Keri, the manager, was not willing to adjust the Coke price as advertised (two 350 ml bottles for $3.50) on 8/10/22. I thought the total seemed high and asked the cashier who said the machine showed a charge of two Cokes for $4. I then mentioned the “buy two for $3.50” price. She said she needed the manager to do an override (after she first had a young guy confirm the price). She then showed Keri who insisted that I was getting the right price. I was also buying a chocolate bar for $1.89, and it was on sale for .80 off. $3.50 plus $1.09 is $4.59. The tax was .28 (if their tax rate is 6%, then the tax was calculated at the $4.59 base price I should have paid). That equals $4.87, not the $5.37 total showing on the till. Guess what the difference was? 50 cents! So I was indeed being charged $4 for the Cokes, not $3.50 as advertised. I even showed Keri on a calculator. She kept insisting that the discount “comes off the top” and then finally said, “Well, that’s how it’s programmed in the cash register. There’s nothing I can do.” I refused to overpay on principle and just bought the chocolate.
