Deluxe Foods of Aptos — Local services in Capitola

We have been customers of Deluxe Foods of Aptos for more than 30 years. There are employees at Deluxe who have known my daughter since she was a newborn. We do the overwhelming majority of our grocery shopping there. The store is our No. 1 preferred source for organic fruits & vegetables, meats & poultry, cheese & baked goods and wine & hot food. Deluxe is a longtime seller of Clover dairy goods, which we find to be top-notch.

Reasons we love Deluxe: the store is not afraid to offer new or requested products. Consequently, Deluxe has introduced us to many wonderful food items over the years which we now consider to be "must have."

The store's meat department is the best in the county and we feel privileged to get our chicken, beef, pork and seafood there. We recently tried out a home-delivery meal service and the meats and poultry were so ghastly we couldn't wait to get back to the butchers at Deluxe.

The cheese section at Deluxe is mind-blowingly complete and bulging with the hard Italian parmesan cheeses my family craves. Deluxe is also a conduit for the Bagelry and all its charms.

I scoffed when the store started to sell hot food, but with kids out of the nest and changing demands on our time, Deluxe's hot food section has turned into valuable asset to us. The folks who work the food alley deserve to be commended for their hard work and constant improvement. We miss them and look forward to their post-Covid return.

Deluxe Foods has been there for me and my family for more than three decades. We have never felt like we weren't getting the absolute best the store could offer us. This includes staying open and available during holidays and disasters large, small and customer-inflicted.

For almost a year, Deluxe has allowed us to maintain our quality of life in the middle of the worst pandemic in our country's history. The store and its employees did this for us while they themselves were also suffering vast personal and professional hardship and uncertainty. For this they have our undying love and respect. This is a higher quality family owned grocery store, and used to be one of my favorites and the one in Live Oak was the best. They carry a good selection of produce, wines, have a bakery and a butcher. They also have a self serve hot food, soup and salad bar. However the choices leave a lot to be desired. They have the basics, usually mac and cheese or some raviolis with sauce, some type of roast, bbq chicken wings, some times fried shrimp, but for the most part it tastes like every thing came from the freezer section, with the exception of the baked bbq ribs and the fried chicken, which they charge by the piece and not the $10. a pound fee they have for salad and the bland hot sides. The staff is very cold and actually are quite rude if you aren't a friend of the owners, or them personally. There is a younger man named Michael who works there and is the exception. They Monte Foundation does give back to the Aptos community, they started having fireworks display in October to help raise money for the schools and then expanded that to be for all schools in Santa Cruz County however this year they limited only to the Capitola Library. Visiting SC from Sacramento area and my friend took me to Deluxe. The store isn't huge, but it's got a wonderful mix of standard and more uncommon items for sale. There produce looked amazing as well as their fresh meat department. So many kabobs to choose from!

I've been looking for a delicious potato salad for those times that I don't want to go through the trouble of making it myself. I've tried at least nine locally with no luck. We were at Deluxe just before closing so I only found two small containers, and without being able to try it, I took the plunge (my friend said just do and got them both.

I'm so glad I did!!! It's DELICIOUS!!!! Totally what I was looking for! With the exception of it being 3 hours away lololol.
