Penick's Sweet Corn Stand — Local services in Carlisle

I was here last year passing through and the corn was amazing. So amazing that this year the wife and I specifically planned a 2.5 hr trip with the intention to buy a lot so we could share with friends/family and have some for freezing. We were buying about 8 dozen in total. When we arrived the attendant treated us like we were absolute garbage. The place was surrounded by mud puddles so I tried to move a cone so that my wife could use it to avoid walking through a massive puddle to exit the vehicle and I was basically reprimanded like I was a child for daring to touch it. Then I tried to pay with a card and was told they couldn’t take card payments because the card reader was inside the building and as I turned to my wife to ask her if she had cash he quite tersely said “have a nice day”. Honestly had we not made a 2.5 hour trip specifically to visit this place I would have given my $70 to someone else. And I’m not sure we’ll make this trip again next year. I was honestly looking forward to making this a yearly tradition. Bought a dozen ears of sweet corn here on Sunday, July 30, 2023, while driving back from Oshkosh, Wisc., to Dallas, Tex., after reading online about Penick's being maybe the best in Iowa.

This is a farm stand with one salesperson. The corn was picked that morning, so the corn silk was a fresh green.

I just buy 3 bags of 13 corn($9 each) on the way home from Iowa. First of all, i was surprised the price (more expensive than store). They gave us ore-gilled bags. I didn’t even bother to check them.
