The teachers were outstanding. Their account of the last days of the Prophets life were empowering, emotional, the details will never leave you, and the courage and bravery with which they reveal in their description leaves the visitors touring the famous last hours of Joseph Smith awestruck. This tour, this experience, is a MUST see for every Latter Day Saint on the planet. And I am not Mormon. I am a writer writing about the history of the Mormon Church, engaged in the history of our nation; This experience at the Calgary Jail is more than a Mormon experience. These events led to the expansion of the West, the railroads, gold mining in Sacramento, settlements in Salt Lake City, Utah. I plan on visiting again with friends from Las Vegas, San Francisco, because Nauvoo, Carthage, Liberty, these jails and buildings belonging to the early settlers who followed Brigham Young, Porter Rockwell, the trip to the discovery of Utah starts here at the death of Joseph Smith for practicing his rights under the Constitution. The corruption, the injustice, the courts, and the law, Americans and people will learn. I am glad that I will remember the teachers we had. The woman’s account was deeply enriching, she was sad with emotion to reveal the tragedy of what the brother of Joseph Smith and Joseph Smith experienced from the mob of over one hundred terrorists, especially the governors and judges order to release Joseph Smith on bond, $500 back in the days of the 1830s of Nauvoo. Learn, listen, walk in the buildings where the first religion of its kind followed from the man who was a boy asking God what religion he should follow. You can relate to that - But see what happens when Joseph Smith’s life unfolds. This is American history. This is the tale of the Utah Territories. California gold rush. Pony express. The tales start here. Special thanks to the wife and husband team that inspired, instructed, and led our tour on December 30, 2022. It will forever be a good memory for my daughter and I following my daughter’s fourth...
Read moreToday I got really angry and then became very depressed after visiting. Joseph and Hyrum got straight up murdered at this place. I could not help but imagine that with a time machine I could have made a difference in the outcome. And then it came to me...the deaths of Joseph and Hyrum had to happen. They had to become martyrs to seal their testimonies of the truthfulness of their work. Their blood will stand as a witness against their murderers to their everlasting destruction. The Savior Jesus Christ had to voluntarily surrender His life on the cross to fulfill His role in our Heavenly Father's plan for our happiness. As incomprehensibly difficult as it would have been to witness that event first-hand, it had to happen. It was part of the plan from the beginning. I now take a great deal of comfort knowing that the Lord compensates the faithful for every loss. That which is taken away from those who love the Lord will be added unto them in His own way and in His own time. While it may not come at the time we desire, the faithful will know that every tear today will eventually be returned a hundredfold with tears of rejoicing and gratitude. One of the blessings of the Gospel is the knowledge that when the curtain of death signals the end of our mortal lives, life will continue on the other side of the veil. There we will be given new opportunities. Not even death can take from us the eternal blessings promised by a loving Heavenly Father. Visit this place when you can to honor the sacrifice that Joseph and Hyrum made. It is well worth the...
Read moreAll people can look back and find times we feel we were wronged or on the other side that we were rightly wronging others. This location that is the site of the martyrdom of Joseph Smith and others that were with him at the time is so close to Nauvoo. That is the town where the rest of the members of the restored Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were hunted and driven from their homes and abused, beaten and killed decades ago. It is still fresh in my mind the stories and depictions of the two events. There are many past events in the history of the human race where we have seen similar merciless and senseless violence and vile acts. But the amazing thing about it is the countless times we are seeing forgiveness and love and grace for the wrongful behavior of those that are in the past with the hope in mind that we learn from the hardships and grow moving forward in Charity and Compassion and Mercy. So grateful for the opportunity to visit the locations and thank God for the people that maintain the grounds and facilities that are enabling these Spiritual encounters that feed the soul with light and peace. Highly recommend the tours and speaking to the staff about their insights to...
